Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum and wanted to post a brief introduction. I played the original Milton Bradley HeroQuest often and can still picture the game boxes on the shelf at Toys R Us (alongside other games like Battle Masters and Dragon Quest). I still have my childhood copy of the game, and have recently gone through all the components and replaced everything that was damaged and/or missing to get back to a complete boxed set. Now I just need to do some work on the box itself, which has seen better days, but I think I can get it back to reasonable shape following
these recommendations. I have also recently purchased both the Kellar's Keep and Return of the Witch Lord expansions, which I never owned as a kid. I would love to own the Barbarian and Elf Quest Packs as well, but can't justify the insane prices those are selling for.
As I'm sure most of us were, I was very excited about the new Hasbro release and I backed the Mythic tier. I haven't even taken the components out of the box yet, but I look forward to sorting through everything at some point... although Abominations will always be Fimirs to me.
My eldest son is almost 9 years old, so he's getting close to an age where I can show him the game and hope he enjoys it too. The only question at this point is whether to start the new version with him, or play the original. For nostalgia sake, I'm leaning toward playing the original, but I'm not sure whether there were enough quality of life improvements in the new version that might make it a little easier for him to get into.
This site appears to be an amazing resource for the HeroQuest community and I look forward to reading through many of the resources and participating in these forums. I'm thrilled to see there are so many like-minded people here who have enjoyed HeroQuest over the years.
PS - My username Sargon was not influenced by Zargon at all, but instead from a college course in Ancient History where we learned about the Mesopotamian ruler Sargon of Akkad. I started using the name Sargon in the PC MMO Ultima Online at that time, and have used it every since. Despite what Zargon may have you believe, he had nothing to do with it!
