*Raising his gaze from the tankard of dark Grog in front of him, sajungzak welcomes the newcomer*

Welcome, fellow traveler of the Twisting Catacombs. I too am expectant of those spoils. They will truly be an excellent addition to the halls of my own dungeon, as I'm sure they will prove for you.
Perhaps there shall be a second kickstarter adventure in which there can be found dungeon masonry to suit...

*Trailing off, his attention returns to the Dutch Harbor Breeze. Sajungzak raises again the vessel to his lips and takes a slow, thoughtful drink*

I agree with the desire to customize. My heroes are all custom and I grabbed the GW Chaos Warriors. I also have GW Skeleton Warriors but the skeleton is so weak I may just save these for more advanced adventures and call them "skeletal warriors".

The good Orcs and Goblin models have been more difficult to find. I really like the way the HQ guys look, so I finally gave up. The noblar mashup posted here by Ampersand and others looks very nice, but a lot of work to build "goblins". The modern Orcs from GW look too… comical? There are nice older models but not so cheap to piece together a full set. I gave up and started painting all of the game system figures. If you give them all different skin tones, clothing colors, and don't batch paint them, then they really do stop looking like a clone army.

*wakes up* ahhhh, fresh meat! Welcome to out Inn! Let me grab my lute and play you an orcish diddy while I duck from that chair knightkrawler is about to throw at me. Fortunately, all this brew makes his aim a bit off.

It's not the brew that throws my aim off, it's your "music", Yoda!

When I get around to painting mine, I plan on doing the different skin tones. I don't care for all of them having the exact same color either.

I always have between 4 and 8 minis on my table, all of them different.
For example, one hero, a skeleton, a goblin, an ogre, another hero, a mummy, an orc. I work on all of them at all times. When one is finished I set it aside to the varnishing batch and pick up another one to start on. I use a wet pallette with a limited color choice, premix some highlights and shadows and color swatches and keep an eye on where I can use these few colors and mixtures thereof. When the pallette has become too chaotic or dry I make the next, basically looking at the mini most likely to be finished next, choosing the next colors thereafter and using these on the other figures as well where I feel they're right.

I go back and forth not only between figures, but also between colors. That keeps things incredibly interesting and time flies by. You get the idea.

Thus, I make sure each figure is unique. I also try to implement every last one of the techniques I learn of to someday have an own style.
For me, it's not about getting things done, but becoming something of an artist in my intentions. I want my minis to look great in my eyes, painted to the best of my abilities or to a standard that I can call artistically courageous/difficult(treading new paths. The Games Workshop studio style is the only one I've never used.

I have made good customizing progress. I do like the GW minis, though not the prices so everything i've bought has been done on ebay.
Like you i bought the chaos warriors ( they just look awesome), some vampire count zombies and skeletons, and some orc warriors. They were all still on the sprues which is how i like them because i want the enjoyment of glueing them together and painting them my way. I plan on maybe buying the old style bloodthirster for the gargoyle.
Fimirs and mummys are the difficult ones to find.
