Hello *waves*

So I've just posted a pretty long 'help wanted' post in another thread, and I thought, maybe I should introduce myself just a little bit.

Um...got HQ in 7th or 8th grade...played a bit with my younger brother, then put it in the closet and forgot about it. My husband will play with me now and again, but he's not as into rpgs as I am - not that I'm very into them either, it's just that they're my cup of tea. :) I usually play Zargon, since of the two of us I'm the one more interested, but he says he'd be willing to play Zargon sometime so I can play the Heroes and explore the dungeons. I get kinda frustrated when he forgets that attacking isn't the only action available to him on his turn. He rarely remembers to search for traps, treasures or secret doors, though he is getting better at searching for treasure, especially if there're treasure chests or other furniture in the room. *smacks forehead* I think he's just in it to attack the monsters, and sometimes I feel so sorry for him when his party is down to a couple of body points that my monsters don't really attack and move as intelligently as they can. ;) Hey, I'm just happy I get to play the game.

Anyway, what was the point to my story...oh yeah... We're about halfway through the Main System quests and we enjoy it enough to play the expansion packs too, but not at the prices ebay's currently selling 'em. So I wandered onto this lovely site that has everything I need to play the games I never got in highschool. :D Oh and ... who was it?... Lurchbrick, right. :D I downloaded his fantastic video game of the original quest plus the first two expansions, which is awesome for me since, as previously mentioned, I never really get to play the hero parts. I didn't even know HQ had been made into a PC game way back when!

So yeah, I'm in the process of searching out compatible figures to play AtOH, WoM, BQP and EQP. DnD minis seem like a good fit and they're decently priced. I did get a bunch of skeletons, mummies, and zombies from ebay last weekend, also a fimir, and a couple of orcs and goblins, so I should be able to get right into KK and RotWL. And I bought a Battle Masters ogre yesterday and I think I'll be getting a few crossbowmen and imperial men-at-arms to be some of my mercenaries. :D

hmm... Man, can I ramble. I imagine you're all sick of me now, and would like me to shut up. ;) Time to hit google again and see if I can't find the sizes for those darn dnd minis.

*waves* later

Well, first of all, let me welcome you to the boards AND welcome you back to (in my humble opinion) the best rpg ever!!

I would also like to say that not only do we enjoy more people here to bounce ideas off of and RAMBLE ON relentlessly about the game that we love so much, but it is also nice to have more women here, just to keep things interesting. (It is also refreshing to see that not all geeks are male!)

Thanks for the welcome, phoenix. I gave you a big thank you after my other post in the rules thread, but I'll say it again here: thanks a million for reworking Against the Ogre Horde and Wizards of Morcar*cough*Zargon*cough* into the North American style. Awesome job! :D

*rereading reply* Hey, are you calling me a geek?! ;) Eh *shrugs* you're probably right. :) I suppose if you all let me ramble on about a silly, I mean, fantastic rpg board game, I'll proudly admit that I'm a geek. :D

Awesome intro! Welcome to the boards. It's always nice to have new people to talk about what most of us can't get enough of... HeroQuest! It's especially enjoyable to be able to do so with someone who is obviously as enthusiastic about the game as many of us here are. Although most of my RPG and HeroQuest experiences have been with women, it is nice to have one on the boards to join in the discussions. Mayhaps most women just aren't as comfortable with publicly displaying their geek side?

Feel free to ramble all you like. If'n you delve deep enough into the threads, we actually have a history of doing just that, about any topic for that matter. Although most of said ramblings will have my name attached. Now that I'm finished you short story (kinda sad in the beginning. But has a very happy ending :D ) I shall now venture into the other many new posts and responses.

Once again, welcome, and please enjoy your stay. Come back often, as we all love sharing ideas and discovering new ways to keep the game growing and alive.

Hey, drathe, thanks for the welcome. :) It's nice to know that rambling is allowed and encouraged.

Yeah, my HQ story did start out a little sad, but it's all good now. And I'm really happy that I found the dnd mini database so I can buy substitute figures for the expansion packs. I'm very excited about that. Dave (hubby) even looked at some of the monsters I was considering and gave opinions on which ones might look really cool. :)

As for women not wanting to show their geekiness publicly, *shrugs* who knows. Some of my other interests include playing the Dragon Quest video games (known as Dragon Warrior back in the 80s), watching Farscape (that was a few years ago), Stargate (more recently), and other sci-fi/fantasy/rpg related things. I love the Terry Brooks books, but oddly enough I haven't really gotten into the Lord of the Rings trilogy even though the Shannara world is very closely related to Tolkien's world. Maybe I'll give LotR another shot this year. Anyway I guess I'm pretty geeky then, but I'm okay with it. :)

hmm...*rereads* rambling again ;) I think I'm gonna go look for the best prices on my minis now and see if I can come up with a list of what I get. Thanks again for the welcome. I think I will like it here. :)

Stargate!? Oh, Phoenix is going to jump all over that! And Zep too if'n he stops by again soon. They've been trying to get me into it for a couple years now. I did purchase the original movie and have watched it at least twice now. I'm intrigued by the possible story-lines the concept can present, but alas, I can't afford to get into something new at the moment and I don't know of anyone in my area whom I can borrow the first season of SG-1 from. I've been looking for it to go on sale or in used stores whenever I'm about, but thus far I've had no luck. Which is a positive sign for the show's sake. Means it's a good as they say. My main worry is that when I get into something new, I go all out and I'd have to purchase everything right away and I just can't do that right now.

But now that it might be three on one... I may finally break down and just get it the next time I see it.

Stargate's a good show... but I know what you mean about starting something new and then being fixated on it and having to get or know everything about it. *nods* I'm sorta that way with HQ right now. I mean, there's no way my husband and I can get through the rest of the main system and the 6 expansion packs very quickly, but I'm searching every day on ebay like I've gotta get it all by next weekend or something. Anyway, I know the feeling. :)

I notice you're in Canada, do they have the SyFy channel or it's equivalent up there? Stargate runs pretty regularly on that channel down here, but I'm not sure if the reruns are in the first season now or farther along. I suppose the other guys have already suggested you rent the dvds first, that way you'll know if you like 'em before you buy 'em. To be honest I actually wasn't a Stargate fan from the beginning of the show, mostly because it first aired on ShowTime and it was hard for me to ask my parents to get the channel, and secondly because I couldn't wrap my head around Richard Dean Anderson being anything other than MacGyver. I did love the movie and the idea of the tv show seemed really cool. Daniel Jackson is my favorite character. Michael Shanks does a really good impression of James Spader's "Daniel" character and keeps it up for about 2 years. But I'm really glad he fought to expand his character so much, though I wish he hadn't left in season 6. It kinda makes him seem...like a spoiled kid or something. *shrugs* But by far my favorite seasons are 9 and 10. :D Could be because Claudia Black and Ben Browder joined the cast and I adore those two... *sigh* I really need to watch Farscape again.

Anyway, that's how I got into Stargate, I heard Ben and Claudia were moving to the show and I had to see more of them. So I Netflixed every Stargate season 1-8 and caught up. Some of the eps are a little...dry, and I guess there's some underlying relationship tension between Jack and Sam Carter, but I never really caught on to it probably because I sped through those seasons. I'd recommend going through them slowly, one ep every night or every other night, just to let it all sink in. You might get through the seasons faster by marathon watching but it all tends to blend and run together. I forced myself to watch all 8 seasons in like a month because the new season was coming up and I wanted to be caught up and not being watching the show and go "what the hell's a goa'uld or a tok'ra or replicator," etc. *bites lip* Hopefully, Phoenix and Zep aren't Vala or Mitchell haters. I'd hate to be a cause of feuding or anything like that. Shoot... rambling again. ;) What was my point? ... Oh yeah, you should rent season 1 or try to catch a few eps on tv and see if it catches your interest. It's really fun!

Yeah, we do have a Sci-fi, space, or some type of channel like that here. Not sure what the current name of it is. They tend to change the names of them every couple of years for some reason. I've caught a few snippits of the show here and there, but since I knew they weren't from the beginning, I didn't indulge myself. I've been hoping to catch the reruns when they start fresh at some point, but I never know when they do that since I don't really watch television other than new episodes of my current two favourite shows... sometimes three if I still count Heroes, but since early last season, I've just skipped it and caught up online later... to my vast disappointment. :(

I'll see if I can find out online when they are running the whole series again.

Aww...Heroes isn't any good? I saw maybe the first 10 episodes of season 1. "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World." *giggles* I loved the whole superhero/X-Men concept of the show, and was amazed something so blatantly sci-fi-y was on mainstream tv. But I guess the winter break was too long or something 'cause I never finished season 1. I caught a few reruns from season 3 the other day, so I put the show back in my netflix queue. I've been meaning to catch up but if you don't think it's worth it maybe I shouldn't bother. :|

What are your two current favorites at the moment, if I may ask? I'm ridiculously excited about NCIS premiering in a week and I can't wait to check out the spin-off NCIS:LA. It's about time NCIS got the L&O and CSI treatment. :D Although, I hope it doesn't mean the original show is going to be canceled soon. :( Anyway, Chris O'Donnell is so dreamy. *sigh* ... ... Still glad you have a girl on your board?

hmmm...just noticed this thread is in the General HeroQuest Discussion forum. *bites lip* um...I'll thread it back to HQ somehow later. ;)

Oh, I highly recommend that everyone watch the entirety of Heroes season one. It's absolutely fantastic. If you wish to go further, be warned. Everything else has it's ups and downs, but it's not remotely close to being as good as the first season. Each time I believe they may finally be getting back on track (such as the premiere episode for season 3) I am wowed at the concepts. Then they somehow screw it all up and it ends up being worse than before. :x This is only my opinion though. There may be some who still enjoy the show and think it's as good as ever. I've just never found one of these people.

My favourite shows are House and Bones. House still keeps on giving where it counts. Bones seems to be sliding down an incline, but there have still been plenty of interesting episodes to keep me coming back for more. The both have their lower points, but they never end up disappointing me.

AerynB wrote:Anyway, Chris O'Donnell is so dreamy. *sigh* ... ... Still glad you have a girl on your board?

Sure am! Just keep the Chris O'Donnells to a minimum. Just kidding. Don't be afraid to talk about anything. We may poke fun, but that's all it's for. Fun.

And I'm not sure any topic that goes on for more than a few posts ever ends up staying on-topic. We're not strict about that, or we'd have to slap our own wrists.
