Not necessary.

Just as well as on a 40 my friend.

You would need a big enough table. That could be considered a downside. I like being able to place any combination of mini's side by side, facing any direction, in front of a door if I want, or between doors on opposite sides of the hall. If I want to. Without any problems.

I know there are others here who would agree.

Why don't you make a poll? "Does size matter? How big is too big?"

After talking to my wife about HQ recently it seems that she has been jealous that me and my youngest girl have been going off playing without her. Now the pressure to get a game set up at home as intensified! I can't believe just how completely inviting HQ is for non-table toppers (is that a phrase?) I've played for sometime before and my and my son play Warmachine from time to time, but not is looks like it's about to become an entire family affair :D

As someone potentially sitting in the same position as you - best of luck!! My wife loves fantasy, but isn't always willing to follow me down the rabbit hole into my geeky need to game within the genre. That being said, I think I'm just "the right miniature" away from pulling her into the fold!!

Welcome all new members,
I have found the most fun part about HQ is making your own heros and stats and spells what really sucked was in the beginning we had to hack a monster off of its base :bites-lip: and then glue the new mini onto it but thanks to some inn champions we now have other options. It truly is a fun thing to play as ether a family or as a gaming group. A few points i might throw out there is don't let players over analyze actions and Line of sight make a ruling and stick to it. Let everyone play as the evil wizard at least once , if they are old enough. The hero's don't have to win all the time, and passing potions should be considerd as a "Action". post and post often :D

The stigma of tabletopping has mostly gone away. So long as you can simplify the rules, which HQ already does, you can get most anyone to try it. The key is to make sure everyone has fun and enjoys it. |_P

I've found this so refreshingly true! I mean, we live in a world where a soap opera about zombies and a political fantasy with dragons in it are the top shows in our pop culture and comic book movies are everywhere (And successful!)! I could not fathom such a thing even twenty years ago. Heck, even the newest edition of D&D is making huge waves on Amazon's top sellers chart.

My family loves Dungeon, Talisman, Dungeon Roll, Munchkin, and all kinds of easy to grasp games with "geeky" themes. What a time to live!

A lot of us are interested in more female support for the game. Please post pics in this thread, or better yet, start a topic in the Heroes sub-forum.

Necronos wrote:Hey you guys!

First, I'm new to Hero Quest - I first played it a few weeks ago. My buddy dragged it out of his closet so his son (aged 8) and my daughter (aged 7) could play it. Another friend played Zargon while the myself, my buddy, and the two kids played. I instantly fell in love with the game. So far we're three quests in and it's only getting better!

Second, I want to get my own set of HQ. I looked on ebay and I've been shocked to see how much the whole game goes for. I think I'm just going to use this site as a resource and build my own game. I've experience with other table top games so I know how to make the likes of furniture and I have a few miniatures laying around.

Third, while I was driving home after our last game I noticed that my daughter was a little dour. I asked what the matter was and she said that there was no girls in the game and it disappointed her. So, I'm going to get female versions of all the heroes and use a little bit of photoshop wizardry and change the hero cards so they have pictures of girls on them.

Fun times are ahead. What is your budget? As for female Heroes, the classic female Barbarian and Elf will cost you a pretty penny. It's feasible to get a pretty decent HQ game system for $100, if you're patient. If you lack a 3D printer, there are some quite excellent female Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf, Wizard and a few other characters on Etsy (shipping times are long). Reaper Miniatures (Bones series is the cheapest) has some quite good female characters that you might consider. I used quite a few of them in my own sets. The personal touch is awesome, but if you need help I have some character cards already made for them (as have many others of course).

If you're trying to blend into the original set more, that can be done, if you're going to kind of make your own revamped look, that's good too. We're here to help and welcome to a cool little world of fans. Of course if you really want to wait a year the 2021 remake includes a bunch of Female characters, but you may have to order through the Hasbro Pulse website (not sure if those bonus heroes are still going to be available now that the fundraiser is over).

Female Hero character cards

Suggested Reaper Miniatures including female Heroes

I have some pics below, but I will caution you, while they look great, the custom resin printed Elf and Wizard variants I've gotten are very fragile, so maybe not the best for a little tyke to play with. Reaper is probably a better choice since they're a kind of hard rubbery plastic. You can stick them to a base easily enough either from Zealot or use my solution in my signature (uxcel pipe end caps are really cheap and easy to modify).

According to the NA rules, passing potions (or other items) doesn't count as your action. As long as you're adjacent, it's free! Now for us we did have a house rule that you could "toss" a potion over distance to another player you could see, but if you rolled a skull on 1 die, it was a fumble (butterfingers) and you lose the potion.

I agree, welcome and have fun! The geeky fad is fine for now...
