Trolls and minotaur's would be cool. Maybe minotaur's under chaos? Dark elves, too?.

I consider a minotaur, and also centaurs, to be beastmen ;)

Trolls were in a white dwarf, so green light for me :).

Minotaurs can swing both ways. In the old days. Chaos was just chaos. That included warriors, demons and beastmen.

Also just to be clear. I don't consider existing monsters to be part of a monster-set.
e.g. If we go for kobolds, the set would be kobold warrior, slime and giant lizard (or whatever).
If you want to team them up with fimirs, by all means, but fimirs don't take up a spot on the set.

Question: Do we consider casters/bosses to take a spot or should we just do like the original quests and use normal monsters/chaos sorcerer to represent these?
Question 2: Do we write out stats/rules for casters/bosses?

e.g. we want a kobold shaman. How do we handle that?.

I've always really liked Sjeng's idea of keeping the monster lineup fairly simple in its structure, and handling special classes or mini-boss characters by assigning them specials stats/abilities in the particular quest.

Here's a faction lineup for consideration:
Greenskins:
Goblin - Ork - Troll

Undead:
Skeleton - Zombie - Mummy

Lizardmen:
Kobolds - Fimir - Lizard beast-thingy

Skaven:
Skaven - Rat Ogre - White Seer/Shaman

Chaos:
Beastmen(all types) - Chaos Warrior - Chaos Dwarf - Sorcerer

This way the only outright new faction are the skaven, the rest are just fleshed out more :2cents: The gargoyle could just stand for exactly that, but could easily be used for Daemons and the like. Some kind of special figure should be in order for whatever the final epic boss ends up being :)

That's a very discreet way of saying SKAAAAAAVEN!!! :lol:

I do find your setup a bit artificial though. I mean, a troll could go anywhere. It's pretty much a "faction-less" monster in my opinion.
And both beastmen and chaos dwarfs could easily be their own thing.

And I still can't help but think that that particular skaven lineup already exists (in White Dwarf).
I personally think that if we end up with skaven (they DO seem popular around here!) we should do a completely new lineup (e.g. assassin, plague monk, giant rat). Though now we are over in the problem with it simply being variants of the same race... arrgh! I don't even... :oops: Just thinking out loud...

Anyways, we are getting a bit ahead of ourselves. This thread at this point is for suggesting themes/groups ;)

... and all threads made here again established what monsters we've already agreed on.
I think it's up to the plotwriters and then questmakers what monsters they put in what team-ups for quests.

After we have a major plot let's establish what any given monster faction wants and fights for. Let's make a background after we polled for what we actually want.
In The Mage of the Mirror elves got evil and teamed up with Ogres and Orcs and necromancy, so let's not be bothered by that stuff right now.

Wait for the poll, put in your voice, and we have the monsters we want.
THEN we can continue work and wrap plots and subplots around those monsters. It's quite a simple concept, really.

I completely agree beastmen and chaos dwarfs could be their own faction(s), but for that matter so could any of the races. In the interest of keeping visually distinct races in easily identifiable factions I lumped them together as I did. As for the Skaven: I'm the first to admit I lack any background on them. When they we're put up as an idea was when I first really learned about them :? If some else has a more informed structure for them I'm all for it :D
