Japanese HeroQuest: Character Sheets & Boards Translation

Hi, I am doing a last check to the translated Character Boards since I think they need it according to the last comments from Daedalus and after translating the Japanese box covers.

The Japanese texts written in the back cover of game box which describes the four heroes were very similar to the ones written in Japanese in their original Character Boards so I think both components should be translated in very similar way for consistency, just adding the minor differences between them.

Then, I have crossed the original Japanese texts from the box and character boards with the translations we have already performed and these are the texts I think we should finally include in both components for better translation accuracy and overall consistency (words marked in bold correspond to the differences found in original texts in Japanese):

Warrior:

- Box Back Cover: An expert fighter with a strong body. There is no one who can match him in combat.
- Character Board: You are an expert fighter with a strong body. With your physical strength, there is no one who can match you in combat.

Dwarf:

- Box Back Cover: Small in stature, but very strong. He is good with his hands and can disarm traps.
- Character Board: Although small in stature, you are good at fighting. You are good with your hands and can disarm traps.

Elf: (Exactly the same Japanese text in box and in his character board)

- Box Back Cover: An effective fighter, but can also use a little magic. He can use a bow to attack distant enemies.
- Character Board: You are an effective fighter, but can also use a little magic. You can use a bow to attack distant enemies.

Magician:

- Box Back Cover: He can use many kinds of magic for attack, defence and recovery. His magic is powerful, but he is weak in combat.
- Character Board: You can use many kinds of magic, for attack, defence and recovery. Your magic is powerful, but you have no physical strength, so you are weak in combat.


If you agree with the changes in the translation of heroes descriptions in Character Boards, I would also update the box back cover's translation accordingly.

As you can see, I basically truncated the Character Board differences. For the Back Box Cover, I believe you're looking for the better match with the Warrior and Magician alternates. I still included the unchanged originals of the box for the Warrior and Magician in case you are okay with less agreement, which individually better represent what is actually there in Japanese characters. Your choice.

Well... the idea I have is trying to keep visible in English texts the slightly existing differences between both original Japanese texts.

Hi, three or four months later I have finally introduced the minor pending changes in translated Character Boards, based in some of the last suggestions.

Nevertheless, the changes in texts are minimum at the end, trying to preserve as much as possible the original Japanese text structure. Moreover, some of the suggested changes by Daedalus were not easy to implement without changing too much the previous format and font size, so, I prefered keeping most of the texts as they were in previous version.

In summary, I just introduced a mixture of the ideas in order to improve as much as possible previous texts but at the same matching them with the texts about hero characters from v.1.2 of box' back cover.

Hi working on a french translation.

Just to be perfectly sure, the elfe don't have a Bow as a starting equipement ?

Because, i saw the crossbow and the legendary bow, but there is no other bow to buy, right ?

You are right. The Character Board says the Elf may use a bow, but it does not say he has one... and yes, there is not any Bow equipment card.

My understanding is the original text introduces that the Elf is the only character with the ability of using ranged weapons like a bow, a crossbow, etc. but that's all. This point was furtherly checked here in the Inn since in a first sight it has not too much sense, but the original Japanese text said that as far as we know, so we kept is as is in our translations.
