Daedalus wrote:it's a bit different to personify Spirit Valley as it opens the allegorical case where Spirit is some kind of denizen of the valley. So it can work, but a level of ambiguity is introduced.

My own solution (not necessarily better) would be to let Spirits Valley stand but also stick with the non-count spirit in the text, just as it translates. By referring to the map the translation contradiction is discovered, but that shouldn't interfere with the Quest.

Hi, thanks. According to Google Translator, the Japanese title of Quest 9 精神の谷 means 'Valley of the Spirit' so, I think Spirit Valley matches quite well with that and, as mentioned before, this translation also matches with the quest notes context. About the map of the rulebook I will treat it as it were a typing error in the original copy, and I will delete the plural "s". Such map was probably generated by the Japanese creators of the game so they maybe translated the valley's Japanese name to inaccurate English wording, adding the plural "s" where it was not required. I think calling it as Spirit Valley will be the less bad option at all and the map should be correctly linked with the quest book content.

Well, I am very glad to share with the Inn's Community my first full version of the Japanese Quest Book translated to English language. :D :D :D

One more time, my Thanks to Daedalus & Krugan for their invaluable collaboration and to the rest of Inn's members who performed years ago the first translations of these quests (AerynB, Bob Bob, bluesun, et al.). Without their work, this translation project would not had been possible. Thank you so much.

Edited message: Previously attached file HQ_Japanese_Questbook_in_English_v1.0_by_HispaZargon.pdf has been deleted since an updated version is just available in this post.

This version includes, for the first time, all the pages of the original Quest Book shown as much accurate as posible to their original style and content, adding all the agreements/suggestions/discussions of previous posts and some last minute minor improvements I have also added.

Please, check it and again if you see something wrong, of course tell me.

Enjoy!

Quite an accomplishment, and the end product looks very good. There is a tiny improvement I would suggest, it is the map picture of Quest 13, there are some white squares within the (slightly darker background) grid boxes towards the bottom of that grid (near the goblins). Again, a very minor imperfection.

As it happens, I'm in Haneda Airport in Tokyo. I have an hour or two to ask any particularly thorny translation questions from some unsuspecting stranger. Let me know if you read this in time . . .

Hahaha... great! Fortunately I think everything is mostly clear about Japanese version of the game. However, maybe clarifying the big two most commented issues about it, which are if Grimdead is the Demon King or not and be sure about the rulebook 'revival' rules / Talisman of Lore card rules. I think that's all.

Rulebook, page 3 top (is Grimdead the Demon King or are they different characters?):

Rulebook page 11 middle (Revival rules for Beginner Rules):

So far I'm able to confirm Glindead and Balur are correct. The other questions require a bit more comprehension. Still bothering attendants . .

Daedalus reporter on location! It almost sounds like a viral marketing campaign...

[Day] Shaky camera footage plays as Tokyo news announcers tell of a crazy man shouting questions about 'Hero Quest'" at an airport... Garbled camera footage shows confused people trying to answer the bizarre inquiries, some running away in confusion. Psychologists attempt to explain how this could happen. "Glindead?" "Balur?" "Hero... Quest?"

camera cuts away to old man in his bed who suddenly wakes up in a cold sweat. "Hero Quest" he says, weakly. Suddenly he leaps up, casting the covers aside and knocking over his medicine bottles... he charges down the hallway... shocked family members react "what's gotten into grandpa?" "HERO QUESTTTTTT!" he yells as he starts tossing clothes around and rummaging through drawers and closets looking for something. "Call the doctor!" someone screams.

The scene changes and we see him now fully dressed as a Barbarian, swinging a sword as he runs down the street in broad daylight (screams in the background, he's not doing it so much in a threatening way, but almost like he's directing a concert with a baton). As he runs, he's joined by others, mostly middle aged, but some younger, from all walks of life, men and women, dressed as Elves, Wizards, Dwarves, warriors, many with makeshift armor, fake beards, etc. bursting out of their homes, taxis, dropping what they are doing to join the mob (the screams turn to chants of "Hero Quest" and shouts of approval as the multitude increases) cute little dogs, cats, and other creatures are seen running alongside, birds, cartoon characters...

Finally they reach the town square, where a police line has formed. "Halt!" yells the captain in charge. He is stern, they are ready for action. Everyone stops, a hush goes over the crowd. The mayor is standing by, but as he turns around, you see he is dressed in red robes with a long white beard and a sly expression on his face. Fast Zoom on the stranger as he chuckles, then cut to the eyes of the "Barbarian" as he smiles maniacally. Fade to black.

It was an ad for Hasbro releasing the remake in Japan all along! (in my dreams...)
