Edited by HispaZargon: Post moved from thread "HeroQuest Japanese Edition Official Rules".

reading the rules a question about the trap hit me.

It is said about the monsters :
Monsters will never get caught in traps. Monsters can freely move through squares where traps are hidden, but after the trap tile is placed on the field, must follow the same rules as the heroes.

it should means that once reveal, monsters can't stay on the trap.
does it means the monster have to jump ?
does monster have to roll a DC ?
what happen if they fail.
"(When caught in the trap)" talk about Heros but the "jump" section talk about Characters.

thanks for you help

It the goblin who attack

should be "Goblin failed to attack!!" ?

You are right, thanks. I will correct it in a future revision as "The Goblin failed to attack!!".

In my opinion, I think we should interpretate it exactly as written, I mean, for example if they want to pass through an already discovered trap, they must try to jump it as Heroes do, so Demon King player would roll the corresponding die and so on...

Moreover, if you check page 15 of the Rulebook, 'Jumping over a Pit Trap' section, it explicitly says that Pit Traps may be jumped by monsters by rolling a die, etc. In that case 'monsters' are considered as 'characters'. I hope I have answered your question.

it answer for a part.

i see 3 key point in trap
- take 1 BP if falling
- use minus 1 DC on attack and defence
- end turn

for the 1 BP, for me it's clear that only for hero.
but for the dice, it could be for monster too.

end the turn for the monster at least have to be done, otherwise there is no point to jump ;)

Edit: thanks for having moving my message to a better place 8-)

Well, in Japanese Edition there is no BPs tracking for mosnters. Only a few mosters have 2 BPs instead of one (Dark Warriors, Gargoyles and Wvil Sorcerers), and they must be damaged in the same dice rolling according to Japanese Edition combat rules, so I understand that monsters with 2 BPs are not damaged if falling in a Pit Trap. However, monsters with juts 1 BP (most of them) will die if fallen in the trap. that's how I would interpretate it here.

Unless you say the monsters don't actually take damage from falling into a pit for instance (only suffer the penalty of being in one). Then again in the other versions of the game monsters don't trigger traps and always automatically jump them. Could be an interesting wrinkle...!

Edited by HispaZargon: Post moved from thread "HeroQuest Japanese Edition Official Rules".

A very small correction in the English Rules of Play translation ("levelling" should be spelled instead as "leveling"):

LEVEL UP
After each quest, heroes may attempt to Level Up by paying 500 gold. If heroes Level
Up, their Max. BP increases by 1. If they fail to Level Up, their Max. BP does not
change. The 500 gold is not returned.
The conditions for leveling up are as follows.
Warrior and Dwarf:
Roll 4 Combat Dice, and you Level Up if you roll 2 or more white shields.
Magician and Elf:
Roll 3 Combat Dice, and you Level Up if you roll 2 or more white shields.

Just noticed it as I was quoting that section to someone on discord...
