Wandering monster?

Just noticed the quest doesn't mention having one. Also noticed the sorcerer has no listed spells

Phoenix's suggestion was the generic Orc for wandering monster (fits with the general theme). Dave Morris' novels were released in the UK, so intended to go with the EU editions, which lack Chaos spells for evil sorcerers (well, other than the later expansions ATOH and WOM).

What should he have?

The introduction may have offered a clue . . .

Lord Thunrir wrote:. . . It was the orcs of Stalac Tor. They attacked without warning, having used fell sorcery to blind our sentries.. . ."

The WD-published Eyes of Chaos had a Sorcerer with magic defense and fire spells. Similarly, Balor would have the water spells. Veil of Mist could blind sentries well enough, while Sleep closes eyes. Problem is, the captive Wizard has the water and earth spells.

Cloak of Shadows and even Chains of Darkness could hinder sentries with darkness, "blinding" them.

Mind Lock could prevent sentries from taking any action, keeping them frozen. This could be relabeled as a blind state easy enough.
