Warning about buying recasts!

Postby Sjeng » Friday June 14th, 2013 8:32am

A warning about buying recast miniatures from rare expansions for HQ, such as the Barbarian and Elf quest packs:

goldendboy82 is a person on eBay from Italy who sells mediocre recasts (at best) of rare HQ miniatures, and he lures people to his eBay auctions via a FAKE advertisement of every HQ set ever made all in one deal for $10.000,-. Which nobody will ever buy, and I seriously doubt he even owns. He simply counts on it that nobody on Earth will buy it from him, but meanwhile look at his other auctions, and see relatively cheap recasts (relatively cheap in comparison to $10.000), and decide to buy those instead.

My advice: Avoid at all costs.

Buy from billdask if you want plastic recasts, or from patroclus if you want metal ones. They are far superiour to goldenboy's crappy casts. Both are good fellas from our own forum, both from Greece.

some quotes:
billdask wrote:I've seen goldenboy selling recasted minis in the original box, with cards and tiles in a ridicules high price.

chaoticprime wrote:Billdask's are identical to the originals in detail. Goldendboy's are actually more expensive, but are of tragically inferior quality. The miniatures HeroQuest uses barely have any fine detail to begin with, and his replicas lessen that even further. There's practically nothing left to paint, at that point.

Goblin-King wrote:I've said it before and now I'll say it again. At those prices I'd rather just buy the complete expansion!
Edit: And I see it's from our friend Goldenboy! That guy is becoming legend! In a not-good way :x

Blackthorn wrote:I believe the Barbarian and Elf Quest Pack can be found at semi-reasonable prices if you persevere, but eBay is usually not the place. Goldenboy's auctions are fun to look at (he must have been stocking up on HQ stuff for years), but his prices often exceed market and his recasts are sub par. Then there's the shipping from Italy.

knightkrawler wrote:A word on goldenboy:

I WILL NEVER freakin' EVER buy from a guy who sets up EMPTY HeroQuest boxes on ebay for TENFREAKINGTHOUSAND whatever-the-currency-might-be-for-the-day just to lure people on his website where he sells below average quality reproductions for prices I could get the originals for.

Can I be the devil's advocate here?
I think we are being too harsh on the guy. It seems we are going to great lengths to keep people from buying from him when it seems to me that his crappy pictures are evident of what you are buying anyway.
I don't suppose anyone buys goldenboy's recasts as exact replicas.
In fact, he has a perfect feedback on ebay cause people who bought from him don't think they got cheated.
It's not like he shows perfect pictures and the actual products suck. It's a little unfair to go out just to hurt his chances of selling more of those, after all none of us here has been wronged (I assume) from him so it shouldn't be personal.

I have nothing to gain from this, in fact I know Patroclus and billdask personally, we have played together many a time (especially with Patroclus) and their recasts are indeed great so I'm hurting their chances if anything.
But I feel this is unnecessary. A decent search on the web and anyone can come across on something better than goldenboy's recasts.

As for the auction of ten grand for the empty boxes, sure it is ridiculous but since ebay is allowing it, does it really hurt anybody?

Finally, let me say that I also would never buy from him, he seems an idiot poorly organised seller with sole goal to exploit romantic fans/collectors in order to make some money.

This is literally a response to someone new to our forums who just purchased items from Goldendboy.

I believe that the reason why his feedback is so great, is that no one knows about better quality minis than his. Unleast I didn't when I bought mine from him. :?

Goldenboy83 has quoted in his auction and here is the link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BARBARIAN-QUE ... 19dd9c862d
He says: "For other informations and pictures please ask." I still haven't received any reply since asking for more pictures. Plus why would he use the same picture in multiple of his auctions that are different and saying things are 100%. :( In a way isn't that false advertisement?

Example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heroquest-Bar ... 19d95b0022

This is a list of his multiple auction. Same picture as the auction above. He states full tile set. And yet multiple tile's are missing.. (selling at £76) :( Again, if fans really don't notice these little differences they will be missing out. I know he has 100% so buyers have either gotten their mini's fine and have known what kind they were receiving, and were happy with the huge prices.. its just the lack of detailed new picture's, bad looking mini's and reception that got me worried with what i was going to be buying. :) and £315 of my cash is just too much to put at risk with such weary/negative feedback. Best always to be sure. :) And i don't think i ever will get any messages back. :/ so.. i am glad i gave this a miss. :D

Beginning July 1st, seller's must use photos of the actual product they are selling, not stock photos, or photos taken from websites or other sources.

I also usually did video's for some of my larger auctions and uploaded them to YouTube. Best way to let buyers see what they are buying. :) See any imperfections as i go through them, that i may have missed. On top of a generous amount of picture's. Id feel guilty otherwise. :P
