Your board is so incredibly cool, I cannot see enough of it. Piece of art!

Great idea with the stones too

That thought crossed my mind in the earlier stages of prototyping it. All of the walls you see in the pic will not be there, as they will only be used when a room is revealed. I was just using them as spacers. The 6mm gap they leave behind will make grabbing the pieces very simple.

thx :)

These rock beds are tedious AF. Each one is like a jigsaw puzzle, placing the rocks one by one so they all interconnect nicely without becoming too tall and are flush with the edge. My first go I just coated the wood with adhesive and took a handful of rocks to it. Left way too many gaps and the glue squishing out everywhere.
This is what a few of them in place looks like.

You could use different sizes of rocks.
The big ones you are already using for the bulk - small gravel and sand to fill out the holes.
That would also create a more natural look.

But since you are halfway done I guess this is pretty useless advice

lol half way done. I'd say I am maybe 15% done. Liking the sand idea, may try to add some to one of the ones I have assembled already. Or maybe I will test sand on one of the 2x2 pieces first.

Testing out the sand Idea. Looks much nicer. Top piece has no sand. Bottom left has a coarser sand whole the bottom right uses a finer sand. Will probably just keep plugging away at gluing the rocks and then sand them all after.

Current state of the board covered. About 30% done
