HQ Map Generator

This is the Map Generator program, it generates HQ quests based on statistics from the original quests and it’s created as a tool for the GMs.

Each time you want to make a quest, with the map generator not only you don’t have to do it from scratch, but it also gives you ideas for where to put things. It also puts some letters in rooms that it thinks they are interesting, just for an idea to where you put your special rooms and notes.

The monsters are generated from monster matrices in the “monster matrices” folder, and you can add your own, having in mind that the names of the monsters should be the same with HeroScribe(to find a name of a monster: 1. open the heroscribe, 2. put the monster you want, 3. save the map, 4. open the xml with a notepad, 4. find the name of the monster) and the rows of the txt files should be 12 (because the program rolls 1D12).

The output of this program is an xml file named “HQ.xml” (rename it to not overwrite it) that can be opened from HeroScribe to do your changes.

Upper Left/Upper Right/Bottom Left/Bottom Right Quarters are the four parts of the map and the central room is the fifth. So, for example, you can put everywhere the “Chaos” monster matrix and on the Upper Right corner the “Undead”.

The Level is the difficulty of the dungeon. As you raise the level you have more rooms, more monsters and more traps.

Have Fun! |_P

So does this program also choose the rooms that are open? Seems nice for a lazy or uninspired quest maker ;)

This is an excellent tool. Would you be willing to share the source code for it?

I just played a bit with it.
The "Monster matrices" are a good idea - one could imagine using it to do almost detail-level design. :D
I would also be interested in the source code. I imagine a combination with the Questimator. I guess that's what Mohawk is also thinking about. Having the "Monstermatrices" set by Questimator, add some lines of code, perfect!

Well, what I'm really interested in is the map-creation code. I'm going to have to write my own code to set the contents of each room regardless of the contents of Patroclus' program. Having a template to build off of would make the mapbuilding part much easier.

You mean this one?
<quest name="" region="Europe" version="1.0" width="1" height="1" boardName="HeroQuest">

After, yours will be more complicated for sure as you'll have to place a door, then parse a path from the door through the room so the heroes are forced to use (more or less) the arrangement from Questimator. The shield goblin shall shield the Boss Monster, not accidently the other way round. :) I spent all the traffic jams of last week thinking about how i would do such a thing. Mohawk you're a pest with the ideas you put in my brains! :D |_P
