Use this area for gathering and playing Play-by-Post games. They need not be HeroQuest, but all games are still subject to the rules of the Ye Olde Inn forum.

For HeroQuest maps, HeroScribe is an easy to use/easy to edit tool. For proficient Photoshop users, Biff (Old Scratch) from Old Scratch's forum has provided a colourful HeroQuest Board. Attached is a simple HeroQuest Dice Roller designed by Mark Miller for PBP players to use if they wish.

Torilen made an Excel die roller, he's welcome to post it if he would like it available to all. I recall you (Phoenix) mentioning another during a chat, but were adding it along with a bunch of other files to send my way. I don't have that one yet (although my memory is... :?: questionable, :? I couldn't find it among my files). But post it. I like options. I'm sure others do too.

First - thanks, drathe, for putting this forum up - I was actually going to be posting a play-by-post game in a couple of days.
Cool that we have a place to do that now.

Second - here is a dice roller and a treasure/body search roller.
On either, simply follow the instructions - there is a place that says Double Click here first, and a place that says Click here second.
This makes the excel sheet recalculate and will give you new random numbers.
Realize, you will need a newer version of MS Excel, or it won't work for you.
On the Treasure roller - these use the game system treasure cards.
On the Body Search Roller - I just picked out some stuff - feel free to change these.

On the dice roller - what you want to look at is either the second section labeled HEROES or the third section labeled MONSTERS
the column for 3,4,5 will tell you how many skulls were rolled.
the column for 1,2 will tell you how many white shields were rolled.
the column for 6 will tell you how many black shields were rolled.
Simply look under the proper column for whatever roll you need.
The first column on the sheet thats labeled NUMBER OF will tell you how many dice is being rolled at a given time - just line that
up with the other proper column (skulls, shields, etc.), based on how many dice should have been rolled.
AND BINGO - you have your roll.

is there not some kind of plug in module that will roll dice for you when you click on it?
Like something similar to a web counter?
That will show the results of your rolls to everyone, with no issues.
Then someone can make up a skull dice roller too...

I have yet to test out that DiceMOD Derfel Link mentioned. I'll see if I can get on that this week. Remind me if I don't.

UPDATE: I took a few hours to install the Dicemod on a test forum on my home computer. There were two manual adjustments I needed to make in order to complete the install. There are definitely a few bugs, such as not being able to properly preview posts with dice rolls in them, or properly view previous posts with dice rolls in the post history when replying to posts. Nothing that really breaks the MOD, but inconvenient and annoying. Otherwise it works great for the pre-installed dice types. In the next day or so, I'll try making Combat Dice images for the MOD and see if I can configure them to work properly. If so, I'll install it on the live forum here, but it will only be available in the Play-by-Post Forum.

Rise, my son. Praise me not. For I am just a man.

At least, wait and see how the rest of the tests play out first. ;)
