This game looks like a blast! I wish I could get in on it, or even get my players together, but alas.

Well, there's got to be some players near you! It's just a question of finding them.

Re: EL FLESH

Postby el_flesh » October 10th, 2010, 12:52 am

Weekend after weekend. It is SO much enjoyment. After a good day at the dojo, with some amazing sparring, we then get into our HQ game...with a good round of drinx to go along!
It's like being on vacation! Man I love Saturday Night Dungeons!

Well, we did miss out on the Lich recipe last time, and we couldn't go back up the spiral stairs to the previous mage. We ran into Korisu Yamato who had found another way in (go figure).
And we decided to send Ninja Singh before us.
Whatever this natural twelve was i dunno - but the door was there anyways...
Korisu Yamato sees bottles hanging from Zebs belt and wants to rip off some booz. He rolls for it, and Zebs fails to detect it. But Korisu doesn't find anything he's interested in - no booz!
Image
___________________________________________________________________________

Some wierd trap that moves is on the way to GET us. Rather than stick aruond and find out what it is, we start filing into the room...the skels there fail to notice the Ninja...but the Mage and the higher skel warrior do!
Image
_____________________________________________________________________

We are all getting into the room - getting tight in there...
Image
_____________________________________________________________________

Korisu, still badly hung over, and not having had a bath for several days, runs back to the main door instead. Finding it locked, he turns once more to face the eeeevil mist...

Image
_____________________________________________________________________

Which is advancing on him! Meanwhile I have had my summoner ass handed to me by the skels - I go to the corner for protection as I only have two body points left to my life...getting lousy rolls yet again!

Image
____________________________________________________________________

But we fight our way through, I heal myself, then raise three skels for the price of one - using the item Ninja found last adventure. Their aggressive and unapologetic nature lead them straight into the other room and in conflict with the brainless zombies in there. They will win.
Image
_____________________________________________________________________

Meanwhile the evil mist has taken some few body points from Korisu with his post-drunken haze hardly even noticing.
Some Mummies get owned pretty fast.
Image
_____________________________________________________________________

Hack, slash, and shield bash - then whacked with a stick. Nothing like bonking the skull of a brainless with a good solid 4' of hardwood. Thick skulls make such a lovely sound when you belt them!

Image
_____________________________________________________________________

Korisu finds a trap in the way. He drunkenly staggers backwards and just avoids falling in. It looks like he planned it that way all along. We know better. Georgeous attacks the mist and dispels it with magic damage.

Image
____________________________________________________________________

Finally there's only one zombie left. In the meantime, I have gained back all the body points I spent to cast. Though most of my other teammates are far off.
Image

_____________________________________________________________________

Korisu is again getting into trouble...

Image
____________________________________________________________________

And he Boldly Goes!

Image
__________________________________________________________________

Twice!
Image
____________________________________________________________________

I'm coming along, sending my ghost ahead of the pack to strip spirit points...
Image
_____________________________________________________________________

My private little army crowds the room...

Image
____________________________________________________________________

An incredible attack from the skeleton warrior of the DM, Beernut.
Image
_____________________________________________________________________

Now here's something to make the fanboys salivate!
Image
____________________________________________________________________

The mummy sends my red skel away with a spell. Since he is more than 10 spaces from me, he falls apart into a pile of dusty bones.

Image
____________________________________________________________________

But that mummy won't last with Georgeous, my two skels, and a ghost left to take him on.
Image
______________________________________________________________

We have found our way beyond that mummy, into a room with a fireplace and no other surprises, through a trapped room, and into the hallway. My Red Skel opens the door to find some wicked weird creatures.
Image
_____________________________________________________________________

The zombie's great reach is a whirl of slashes - his hands are supernaturally fast! He whittles away at Red Skel's hitpoints. But a little knowledge is gained...
Image
____________________________________________________________________

Now the battle is in full swing! Several hits from the long-armed creature bater on Georgeous' defenses! He has almost no action left after merely defending this creature's flashing claws attacks!
Image
__________________________________________________________________

My ghost is destroyed by a magical sword!
Image
_______________________________________________________________

The fight is really lasting long! I can't send my skel in to the fray with Georgeous using his Illuminating Axe of Necrophobiac *butt-spanking* power...it is damaging the undead all the while! Zebs berzerk is failing to kill the zombie in front of him, and Korisu is paralyzed for the next turn....
Image
__________________________________________________________

But we beat them and come around the other side. Alot of healing potions have been used...

Image
________________________________________________________________

Korisu and Zebs destroy the fast hands zombie - though it had taken its toll in health potions aplenty! Four of us instead of five would probably have failed. Bad choices would have done us in, too. No single one could have stood on that floor alone and remained alive for more than one round!
Image
____________________________________________________________________

All that's left now is to pick up the pieces.....of GOLD!

Image

and several other nice items/artifacts.

We noticed that these bosses are getting alot harder...But we are finally finding good items with Ninja's search bonuses...

OK, now I'm starting to wonder if this is really Hero Quest anymore...
Check tonite's game out, and lemme know what you think...

The new board BASE.
Image
_________________________________________________________________________

The exit door of our last adventure is opened, and
Ninja peeks thru the door.
We proceed cautiously because it's only him, Zebs and me tonite...

Image
_________________________________________________________________________

The gold skeleton is one of the bad(er) guys.
Image
_________________________________________________________________________

Ninja wipes out the archer, and I raise a red skel...
Image

What we didn't capture is that after taking alot of damage, the gold skel leaps over Zebs and hammers me with incredible damage. I fall down at ZERO body points! My skel collapses into a heap of bones, and gives me one point back in healing - I spring back up. We kill the rest of the skels, and I raise another red skel!

We are all pretty scared at this...did we bite off more than we could chew in this adventure with TWO guys less than normal??
_______________________________________________________________________________

We find a closed door. I search for a hidden switch, and fail to find anything. Good thing Ninja is there with his high rolls...he finds the mechanism.
The doors open.
(check vs. the CLOSED door tile in the above pic! DM just flipped it over! WOW!!!)
Image
_______________________________________________________________________________

Then he peeks thru, hiding in plain sight. What does he see?

Image

We hunker down and plan. I tell Zebs that he needs to run in there, jumping OVER Orcs if he needs to, to get to the armored Orc on the other side of the room and kill him in front of his stunned flunkies!
_______________________________________________________________________________

A quick sprint, and then one swing of his mighty sword in berzerk brings him down! He never had a chance to resist!

Image

Zebs is getting braver!
_______________________________________________________________________________

Ninja's turn entirely as he kills...

Image

Image

one after the other.
_______________________________________________________________________________

With three bodies I can use the artifact he found me two adventures ago - raising three skels for the price of one!
We have our army!
Image
_______________________________________________________________________________

They wipe out the rest of the Orcs in one shot. Now its just the archers.

Image

We were afraid before - but now, as Confucious say about a man with hands in pocket: we are feeling cocky.
_______________________________________________________________________________

Even more so one turn later...with almost NO damage taken!

Image

Ninja was so sure of us that he searched for treasure while we were fighting in the background! Good thing the DM allowed this!
_______________________________________________________________________________

He then finds a secret door - which, once again, Zebs and I were unable to find on the other side of the room - due to lousy rolls and not where we were looking!

Image
_______________________________________________________________________________

Up the ladder, he finds a bridge - over a deep chasm.

Image
_______________________________________________________________________________

I command my skels to wait at the bottom until we are ready...

Image
_______________________________________________________________________________

Ninja sneaks down the corridor, unseen

Image

He reports something that makes us really pause and think!
Image
_______________________________________________________________________________

There is nothing for it. We MUST pass the bridge!
I send up my skels to make a wall. They will have to hold the line until we can counter-attack!

Image

oooo now there's an army of darkness for you! Ready to bonk the *Play-Doh factory*'s head right off!
Too bad he has TWO of them!
_______________________________________________________________________________

My army cleaves straight thru the Goblins. The Orc attack on their turn doesn't do much damage! They also get shot in the back by their own archers!

We kill the res to of the Orcs. I am not sure about the massive giant, so I raise a Mummy with 3 random medium "chaos" spells.
One of which is warp allies. I get some Orcs on my side, and an Orc archer - we go to town on the remaining Orcs who drop their bows and pull out blades!
Image
_______________________________________________________________________________
But the giant whacks two Orcs in two swings - killing them instantly!
It is Zebs turn to run, and attack the Giant viciously with his massive 9 attack!
Too bad he didn't turn up 9 skulls...
Image
Ninja attacks him next...
_______________________________________________________________________________

And stands triumphant!
Image
_______________________________________________________________________________

Ease on down, ease on down, the rooooaaaddd...
Image
_______________________________________________________________________________

It's a long bridge.
Image
_______________________________________________________________________________

Done. In about 3 hours.
Image
_______________________________________________________________________________

So is this still Hero Quest???
I'm finding the modular board to be quite liberating. Like our DM mentioned, corridors wider than 1 space allows some massive battles that are resolved faster...

So - I should keep posting even though it's diverging from the game?...

For those who want to use that modular...its made by wizards of the coast...it costs 26 CANADIAN dollars (tax included) and it does have a crapload of tiles (what you saw in our game is just a fraction of the tile content...A VERY GREAT DEAL FOR THE PRICE). Also in december they will be bringing out a wilderness tile set. Lemme tell ya that it will give to my level designs a LOT of flexibility.
Mr Flesh is working on a site so we can bring you some teasers on our game mecanics (level 20 characters, unique skills, unique abilities based on profession and race, multiple levels of the same monster type and so on...Gotto thank him for the posts cause it really drives me to design the game and adventures for maximum fun (I hope!)

That would be Zebs of Doooom, a hybrid Orc/Human I think...

It's an advanced D&D fig that you can get in a hobby shop or order somewhere I'm sure...
Same thing to obtain the tiny goblin with the crossbow. We can't find a ninja fig yet for him.

Finger food varies. There's almost always some kind of cheese, often Emmental, Camembert/Brie, baked bread, usually Tortilla chips and Salsa...all kinds of things you want to keep well away from your game board and pieces. We often make very good cold-cuts sandwiches. When Beernut starts his own website, there will be a recipes page...

That ZEBS certainly cuts a fine figure!! Great food, wish I was there, looking forward to the recipes. Grandson is already well trained in the art of consuming olives, cornishons & cold cuts. He is Dairy Free, so no cheese, but actually eats Marmite Sandwiches!! Must get that from his Mums side of the family. We have some similar Goblin Archers, from one of the original Add-Ons I think.
