Hero Quest's beta form used corridor and room tiles instead of a board. It's nice to see a system that capitalizes on their freeform nature.

An interesting read. I was also deliberating on using a modular AHQ style layout instead of a fixed HQ board and this has convinced me.

The plan is to use the intersections of the flagstones/ floor squares as the point of reference for the models rather than the flagstones / floor squares themselves so it keeps the feel of a confined dungeon, single space width corridors but also allows some more room for the physical minis and furniture themselves.

I also think a card system to generate the layout is a vast improvement on a dice system, it is one of the few things I liked about Warhammer Quest (that and the doors!)
:skull: = white skull, one "hit"
:blackshield: = black skull, one "hit"
:whiteshield: = shield, cancels out one "hit"

I'd do cards for the special rooms as well. Rotating room, Ogre horde rooms, stuff like that!

Some of my ideas, EU format. If someone has the NA banner digitally in a PSD, I could make the NA versions as well ;)

I like the middle or bottom ones for the Hallways deck, for sure. I could get used to the first one for the Rooms, but I'd like to shop around first.

Show offs!

While these cards look nice, they do completely miss the point of ShuffleQuest; which is having each card represent a specific room on the board (ok it works with the center room but the design of the others are too ambiguous and don't display on the quest map).

In this way you place the exact room and it's content as seen on the quest map, the heroes just encounter them in a random order with random length connecting corridors. You guys did read the rules right? ;)

There's nothing about these cards that is less abstract that using poker cards. You are still alerted to the same room, but with less need to refer to a secondary source for information by showing the exact room tile to pull.
