So I haven't played HQ or any variant in months and months now.
I went online and found meself a meetup place. 3 guys answered, but one of them had to miss out since his GF was ailing and needed his TLC.

Well 2 fine fellows showed up, and we started with "Rescue of Sir Ragnar" - yet again!

They went to the right (of me the DM) and cleared out all the nasties before finding the prisoner. It was a great game all around - a Barb and a Dwarf, and each one taking a Merc with them!

Beernut's style of descriptive and graphic monster deaths were very well received, as well as expanded Hero versions (each hero having a talent) and rolling to determine outcomes of actions.
At one point, the Barb needed to get the Dwarf out of the doorway - so I allowed him to shove him into the adjacent space. But a fail roll made the dwarf smack his face into the wall, and lose 1 BP as his teeth fell onto the floor like Chiclets. It was hilarious.
The Barb wanted to flip in the air whilst jumping onto a table to attack a Goblin from the side. A roll of 6 not only allowed this, it also made the Goblin so flabbergasted he had no defense when attacked!
Later on the Barb had to drag the other player's Merc out of the secret door; he was being slaughtered by the Orc & Fimir - but a mis-roll made him slam the Merc's head into the wall, knocking him out and requiring a life potion!

We had alot of fun playing it. Hope to have more players soon!

Without a wizard you seem to have a lot of hack and slash there…

“the Barb needed to get the Dwarf out of the doorway - so I allowed him to shove him into the adjacent space”, lol is it about the talents you said, or your players had this wonderful idea? I like it a lot when a player asked “can I do this?”. The answer should always be “yes you can, but…”, never say “no, there is no way to do this”.

I had a good laugh reading this. More, please. Play more often!
I love the roleplay-like roll-to-determine-the-outcome-of-an-action-concept.
I've been trying to incorporate these with rules, which - I learned - is NOT the way to go.

Exactly.
"Can I fly in the air?" No.
"Can I run and knock the guy out of the way?" Roll and see what happens when u try! I let the roll suggest to me what happens!

Well, we met up again yesterday, and generated some D&D chars. Will let u know how it goes.

Then we played the next quest, searching Ulag. Only the Barb was the same guy; he was joined by a couple, guy took the dwarf, the lady took a witch. Since there were only 3 heros, I let the witch have all the spell cards AND allowed no limit to casting per turn (within action points). At one point, the dwarf knocked the Barb aside to get through a doorway - but he was pushed straight into the witch, who had moved aside and had her back up against the wall. The barb said "I put both my hands up to cop a feel on the witch". She rolled bad, and bonked her head on the wall getting dazed while getting felt up. But later she did smack him on the back of the head - and his roll made it only a loud noise with no dmg. It was hilarious with him kicking down doors and flexing muscles, and the Dwarf primarily searching for treasure when there were threats a bit ahead.

They did manage to kill Ulag and the Chaos knight, who had raised 2 mummies and 2 zombies before being killed by the Genie! All in all it was pretty fun. We still ahve to finish the game though,a s the back room hasn't been opened at all, and Ulag's room hasn't been explored. Good job for cel phone pix!

aaaahhhhhhh - I love this game.

Player asks "Can I fly in the air?"
The question at that point is, is the hero delusional?
If so, then the answer is...sure, try jumping off that ledge, since you think you can.
Could be disastrous, but hilarious as well.

Just have another hero ready on the side.

If the lady comes back for any more Quests after having the Barbarian feel up her witch, give her the Marion Award for a dedicated HQ player who can deal with the nonsense.
