Surviving the Solo Quests: Xanon Pass

Postby wallydubbs » November 21st, 2018, 11:28 pm

Ok, so much like the Elf Quest Pack, the Solo Quests for the Frozen Horror need some tweaking if an uneqipped Female Barbarian intends to survive. I just got done playtesting it twice with my GF and as it turns out, with no spells at the Barbarian's disposal this one all comes down to luck of the dice.
I made some adjustments that I thought would help significantly:
Starting with the bottom left quadrant of the board, the first room with the Alchemist Bench should contain an Elixir of Life and the chest to the room just above still has 75 gold in it, but also a daggar. Unless she ends up throwing it this dagger will be detrimental to her survival. She'll need this dagger to escape the yeti hug.
The first time we played it she left this quadrant with onlyb2BPs remaining. The 2nd time she had 5; like I said, luck of the dice roll.

Top left quadrant the room with the Table I'll grant a Potion of Defence sitting on the table; this should help when either fighting the Yeti or Polar Warbear. She ended up getting grabbed by the Yeti in the hug just after drinking the Elixir of Life, and I changed the Yeti's hug to only 1BP damage per turn. While being crushed by the Yeti she tried stabbing it with the dagger, but it took 6 consecutive rolls on the combat dice to get a skull (unusual). Needless to say she didn't survive the first attempt. 2nd attempt worked much better.
The next room with the bookshelf I added a potion of healing.
Also, 1 skeleton is good enough for a wandering monster.
She managed to make a successful attack on the Ice Gremlin, landing 2BP of damage before it ran away with her crossbow, but she managed to finish it by throwing a the dagger.
Through a series of lucky rolls she was successful this time, surviving the Polar Warbear by alternating between Broadsword and Crossbow.
This one came down to a series of lucky rolls for the Female Barbarian, otherwise she was likely to fail.

Yep, virtually impossible as written. The early Elixir of life is a big help.

That is a bit sexist; there's nothing wrong with women playing Hero Quest, my girlfriend is ok at it and one of her daughters is really good.

However if you wish to crossreference this statement with the current Star Wars universe I might be obliged to agree with you. The entire Star Wars canon was ruined by a feminist message that destroyed the entire plot of Last Jedi...

I'm pretty sure lestodante was being sarcastic.

I always wanted to make those other quest books 4- colored, too.
You gave me some reason to continue. Thanks a lot Wally.

We played it again today with the aforementioned changed, but as this one strictly relies on diceroll, I can tell you that last time she got very lucky, victory is still unlikely as you almost certainly need another Potion of Healing drawn randomly from the treasure deck. That Polar Warbear can't be allowed to stay; replace him with a Chaos Warrior and get rid of the first Ice Gremlin, leave a goblin instead.

You sparked an idea in Anderas' pretty little head is what you did. :ugeek:
