With some delays, but things are going well and we’re finally approaching the end of development for the WQP! Stay tuned! ;)
It’s just as awesome as it sounds!

Wow, that sounds good. Will there also be a German version?

Probably not in print, but files should be available in most european languages (and free to download)!

Why is it not available in print? Are there any problems here?

Not necessarily, our objective is to create something as close as possible to what a 1992 release would be, this means the print would be in english, and it might be too complex to work on prints for each language. We’ll see how things go, consider you’d only have the questbook and cards to have a localized versions (both fairly easy to print - we could give some directions to local groups if they want to make a bulk order).

I think it might help to talk to Cristobal about this. Last year he published his Guardian (La Guarida de Morcar) in German, English, French, Italian and Spanish and made it available to order.
Maybe he can give you a few tips on how to implement it?

Dwarf- Quest and Wizard-Quest without/before Hasbro in Europe in different languages.
A breathtaking vision!

Thank you, lucapaschi ;)

Well, the Guardian has very little content to translate and print, and also a single format (HQ21). You’d have to pick a format for the old HQ (should you make questbooks in the EU format? With EU rules? EU cards back? Lots of possibilities and extra work!), take care of possible variations (having an unpredictable number of boxes printed in various languages), plus we might have a more complex situation, IP-wise. We’ll see!

I figured this whole project was creating a bunch of downloadable files, and people make the components themselves, but now it sounds like we will be able to acquire box sets of these expansions with miniatures and stuff? That sounds pretty exciting!

Mass producing a fan product in physical format is difficult enough (remember the problem with scalpers of "rare" items?), but making it look like an official product, based on official files... that's even more challenging without risking unwanted scrutiny from Hasbro's legal team.

Would translating it into German, Italian, French and Spanish "protect" it from such things? I think people who are demanding a special fancy box delivered to their door should think about these complicating factors. Translate, yes, print yourself? Yes. But asking luca (or Ye Olde Inn members) to mass produce and distribute it, I don't think have really thought this through, especially now... we don't know how the new leadership of HeroQuest via Avalon Hill will regard such things with their fan outreach.

Players need to learn to how to create their own stuff. You can print your own boxes, cards, boards, files, even models, fairly cheaply for yourself. This is a better path than relying on one person (or a group of people) who will be tempted to raise the prices so they can distribute around the world (and again, risk being C&Ded, and "their work" being turned into FOMO fodder). Granted, these days anything free risks being snapped up by unscrupulous people and sold online, but hopefully if enough people realize it's freely available will help curb that abuse.

Man, I don’t know how I could have made it sound like that!
Now, let me get back to this box design with a photo of all the included components we have already designed and already have as physical mockups so I can make it look just like it would have if it was released in 1992…
