I purchased for myself a fairly inexpensive detachable (external, usb) webcam that can be affixed to a tripod. I'm hoping it will come in handing for gaming sessions! It doesn't have a zoom feature, but I can physically pick it up and "point" it at the board so you can see certain pieces or cards much easier.

Hero players don't all need dice. Only the DM needs dice. Even when playing round a table, only the DM needs to roll the dice, it makes it a lot easy when you're not passing dice back and forth. DM only needs to keep track of who has what attack, defence and potions & spells in play. Each hero play only needs a character sheet and a view of the board to see what they want to do.

I was thinking about play via zoom or similar the other day. It's disappointing you actually have to pay for zoom to do what we want to do. If anyone figures it out count me in, to DM or play a hero.

I'm also interested in jumping in on something like this. A friend of mine and I played gloomhaven using google meet, and we both have the game. It worked, but was a bit clumsy because we were using our laptop cameras, so I had to have the screen at an odd angle to display the board, and if I wanted to see my buddy's board, I had to hunch down and look up at the screen. I think the biggest challenge for me would be finding time to play without family interruptions.
Anyway. I'm interested.

Played a great game the other night for about 3 hours. Two of my heroes barely made it out of the Castle of Mystery with the treasure!

We played each using our own Heroquest GS sets via Zoom. I used a cheap external webcam on my laptop and my built in camera software, while my opponent had a hybrid setup with a GoPro and then a laptop and smartphone. We had to coordinate our object placement using cardinal directions and colors of the sections on the board. Having numbers assigned to the rooms would probably be a good idea for future games. We didn't really have internet issues, my webcam went down right before we were set to begin but was fine after I restarted it. We tinkered with the lighting a little (minimizing glare off the board), but not bad overall.

I would definitely do it again! Pity I don't have a smart phone, as this can serve as a document viewer to more easily see cards, dice, etc.

Ow, just now I see this post. I had created this post below just to talk about a way I created to play online.

I saw someone mentioned dice issues and having the dm roll for everyone. There is a heroquest dice app in the Google play store.

Cool, but you need an Android device to use Google Play, last I checked. I know you can emulate some smart phone features with bluestacks, but that's a lot of effort when I can just point the webcam at my dice.
