Re: List of special monsters

Because I'm considering painting these special encounters myself I'll share how I'm planning to break it down.
As some characters basically are the same figure, I don't think it's neccesary to actually have one for each. All orc bosses is for instance the same figure:

1 Orc with notched sword:
Ulag (Orc)
Grak (Orc)
Ograk (Orc)

4 special painted Orcs:
Magical Orc Statues (4 Orcs)
Magical Orc Statue which shoots fireballs (Orc)

1 (or 3?)* special painted Chaos Warrior:
Gulthor (Chaos Warrior)
Gragor (Chaos Warrior)
Krag (Chaos Warrior)
Hinsgrim (Chaos Warrior)
* Doomguard (3 Chaos Warriors)

4 special painted Chaos Warriors:
Stone Chaos Warriors (4)
Enchanted Suits of Armor (4 "Chaos Warriors") - Not sure what to do with these. Chaos Warriors ARE armors! Probably just use normal painted Chaos Warriors...

1 special painted Zombie
Karlen[EU]/Wardoz[US] (Zombie)
Vadim Gorfell (Zombie/Spirit)

1 Chaos Sorcerer:
Balur (Fire Mage)
Witch Lord (Chaos Sorcerer)
Petrokk[EU]/Borokk[US] (Chaos Sorcerer)
Nexrael (Chaos Sorcerer)
Festrael (Chaos Sorcerer)
Xenloth (Chaos Sorcerer)
Vilor (Chaos Sorcerer)
Skulmar, Captain of the Dead Host (Represented by the Chaos Sorcerer, but not sure what he actually is...)
The High Alchemist (Chaos Sorcerer)
Delzarron (Chaos Sorcerer)
Tormuk The Necromancer (Necromancer/Chaos Sorcerer)

1 special painted Chaos Sorcerer:
Magical Chaos Sorcerer Statue (Chaos Sorcerer)

2 special painted Gargoyles:
Verag (Gargoyle) - Because real heroes start with "The Trial"
Bellthor (Poisonous Gargoyle) - This definitly need a unique greenish/purpleish poison colour scheme!

4 special painted Skeletons:
Ancient Dwarf King Skeletons (4 "Skeletons")
Spirit Riders (4 Skeletons)

1 special painted Mercenary:

Sir Ragnar (Human Knight)
Probably I'll just use a mercenary for this one...

1 of each base set monster:
The Shape-changer (It changes shape, soo...)
Maybe paint 1 of each race in some common scheme.
May seem a bit excessive, but this IS a cool monster I can see myself and others using in custom maps, soo...

1 special painted Crossbowman:
Evil Crossbowman (Crossbowman)
Paint a Crossbowman in Black/Evil colours

1 special painted Barbarian:
Gothar (Barbarian)
Spare Barbarian anyone?

1 special painted Barbarian:
Kelvinos (Undead Barbarian)
Paint spare Barbarian in zombie colours.

The Difficult:
Kessandria, The Witch Queen (Female Chaos Sorcerer)
This one doesn't really have a fitting figure within the official packs... Hmm...

Millandriel, Elven Princess (Female Elf)
Proooopably just use the female elf. But I'm being realistic and guessing most won't have a spare female elf in case the players choose to play female...

Queen's Attendants (2 Female Elves)
Arrrrgh!!!

The Unnessecary:
All these figures either have special figures or are "special/elite" troops that replace all corresponding figures in the quest. As you won't meet any non-special troops it's not neccesary to differenciate.

Zanrath (High Mage)
Zanrath's Elite Force (Chaos Warriors)
Fanrax (Necromancer)
Fanrax's Creations (Skeletons)
Boroush (Storm Master)
Grawshak (Orc Shaman) - Why isn't he named Grawgrak?
Grawshak's Elite Bodyguard (Orcs)
Tograk (Ogre Chieftain) - They sure like the suffix "grak"!
Ogre Lord (Ogre)
The Frozen Horror (Well... The Frozen Horror...)
The Queen's Prospector (Male Elf)
Sinestra (Female Elven Archmage)
The Doomguard (Chaos Warriors)

*Edit* Aarh what the heck... Let's just take all the expansions!

Only those actually represented on the board by a figure are mentioned:

Game System
Verag (Gargoyle) - Because real heroes start with "The Trial"
Sir Ragnar (Human Knight)
Ulag (Orc)
Gulthor (Chaos Warrior)
Grak (Orc)
Balur (Fire Mage)
Stone Chaos Warriors (4)
Karlen[EU]/Wardoz[US] (Zombie)
Witch Lord (Chaos Sorcerer)

Kellar's Keep
Enchanted Suits of Armor (4 "Chaos Warriors")
Ancient Dwarf King Skeletons (4 "Skeletons")
Gragor (Chaos Warrior)
Ograk (Orc)
The Shape-changer (It changes shape, soo...)
Petrokk[EU]/Borokk[US] (Chaos Sorcerer)

Return of the Witch Lord
Spirit Riders (4 Skeletons)
Bellthor (Poisonous Gargoyle) - You can tell by his name he is awesome!
Skulmar, Captain of the Dead Host (Represented by the Chaos Sorcerer, but not sure what he actually is...)
Doomguard (3 Chaos Warriors)
Kessandria, The Witch Queen (Female Chaos Sorcerer)
Magical Orc Statues (4 Orcs)
Witch Lord (Chaos Sorcerer) - Same as in the Game System

Against the Ogre Horde
Magical Orc Statue which shoots fireballs (Orc)
Tograk (Ogre Chieftain) - They sure like the suffix "grak"!
Nexrael (Chaos Sorcerer)
Festrael (Chaos Sorcerer)
Xenloth (Chaos Sorcerer)
Ogre Lord (Ogre)

Wizards of Morcar

Zanrath (High Mage)
Zanrath's Elite Force (Chaos Warriors)
Fanrax (Necromancer)
Fanrax's Creations (Skeletons)
Magical Chaos Sorcerer Statue (Chaos Sorcerer)
Boroush (Storm Master)
Grawshak (Orc Shaman) - Why isn't he named Grawgrak?
Grawshak's Elite Bodyguard (Orcs)

The Frozen Horror
Evil Crossbowman (Crossbowman)
Krag (Chaos Warrior)
Gothar (Barbarian)
Vilor (Chaos Sorcerer)
Kelvinos (Undead Barbarian)
The Frozen Horror (Well... The Frozen Horror...)

The Mage of the Mirror
Queen's Attendants (2 Female Elves)
The Queen's Prospector (Male Elf)
The High Alchemist (Chaos Sorcerer)
Tormuk The Necromancer (Necromancer/Chaos Sorcerer)
Sinestra (Female Elven Archmage)
Millandriel, Elven Princess (Female Elf)

Dark Company
The Doomguard (Chaos Warriors)
Vadim Gorfell (Zombie/Spirit)
Hinsgrim (Chaos Warrior)
Delzarron (Chaos Sorcerer)

...

Fun Fact:
"Fimirs are sometimes found leading small bands of Orcs and Goblins..."
Yet through all the quest books there exist not a single Fimir special character!

Found one. In the Dwarven Forge, Quest 4 of Kellar's Keep (NA version-edit), there is a Fimir in room B that can cast the Rust spell on 3 seperate turns. It isn't named, but being able to cast 3 spells is definitely special.

By the way, that's quite a list!

The way I use the Fimir the players tend to think they are the 'bosses' of the dungeons.
But then I have a nasty habit of giving all my Fimirs chaos spells.....

Why not give your Firmirs the Firmir spells from this site :?:

They do look cool.

I need stronger paper than I have to make cards.

card protectors!

You can either double side or single side print and slide them in, works great!

Just got "The Tyrants Tomb". I didn't realize it had a quest also, which even adds more characters to the list!
I give you:

A Growl of Thunder!
Balor (Chaos Sorcerer)
Balor's retinue (3 Goblins)
Grashlÿg (Ancient Orc warlord in wight form - They suggest using a mummy)
Balash (Human Wizard)

Balor's Honour Guards (2 Chaos Warriors)
They carry Balor's personal coat-of-arms on their shields: Four serpents intertwining to form an eight-pointed star.
Good luck painting those shields!!!

These have been added to the main list.

List of HeroQuest NPCs

Postby Blackthorn » Friday January 25th, 2013 2:17pm

II think it would be handy to have a list of all of the "offical" HeroQuest NPCs like this along with their stats, spells and what quest they originally appeared in for use in fan made quests. It could also include all other characters that are mentioned in the rule book and quest notes even if they are not represented on the board.

Hmmm, maybe this is something I could work on :geek:
