I think this Hero card was unnecesary... it means that a player can control Mentor but having the same stats as the Wizard, who was suposed to be a less powerful character than Mentor...

Kurgan wrote:The "Wand" has its own card (125 gold) and can only be used by the Warlock. Makes sense. It was silly to think that only this character could buy it (and then give it to someone else to use?).

Another thing quite surprising for me. The card assumes that the Warlock can lose the wand, maybe by the action of other spell, but it is great to see that Hasbro has taken it into account and added there a gold price for the wand.

HispaZargon wrote:Hi again,

After a first overview of the comments posted here about Cosmic Tavern's unboxing video, here are my thoughts about several topics. Please, of course maybe some of those comments could be incorrect because I don't have a copy of the game so I don't have all the information but, here they are anyway:

Another topic mentioned is that tools kit is now considered an artifact instead an equipment item, really? Something to be confirmed too.

- New small tile in Basic Game System box: Very interesting... Kurgan suggested here that it may be to represent the Star of the West, it could be a very good catch but I think we need more information about it to confirm.

The Tool kit remains equipment, 250 gold coins

There is a token which has the player symbol used in rulebook on one side and Zargon symbol on the other, it isn't mentioned as the star of the west specifically in the quest and I can't find a use for it. The double sized blocked wall tokens have a drain on the reverse side as well.

Ok, thank you! quite interesting what you say about those tokens... does anybody have any idea about their posible use?

Another idea... Do you think the misterious token could be used for example to mark in the board those Heroes or Monsters affected by a Sleep spell? The token has the same size as the skull ones.

Re: Hasbro 2021 Remake: Public Unboxing IS HERE!

Postby Kurgan » Friday November 5th, 2021 12:41pm

The idea of a "spell effect token" could be interesting (Against the Ogre Horde did this back in the day with the Chaos mentalist spells). So instead of placing a skull tile or a red die next to the guy (for "sleeping" monsters we just tilted the miniature on its back, if there was room), you could use a generic tile to mark it. Makes sense.

Surely there is an explanation for each object somewhere in the book. In the original game we got extra skulls and rats for no reason. I guess the reason was "in case you lose the ones you were using." Spares. Or how Wizards of Morcar gave us 23 Men-at-Arms cards probably because they couldn't justify printing a partial deck (you really only "need" 4 cards, maybe 12 at the absolute most). But a unique object with no explanation? To be explained in a future expansion? Odd.

I am starting to wonder if they didn't just shoehorn in some generic alternates to get people's imaginations going. Back in the day we didn't really need a "female wizard" character. If someone was playing a female wizard, they'd just mark it on their sheet, or grab a different mini and say that was it (maybe the sinestra figure from EQP). Having a Wizard character that looks like what Mentor is supposed to look like makes sense. He's just a generic character, much like how all the Barbarians are stand ins for your Barbarian level character.

Maybe my Barbarian isn't actually a Conan look-alike wearing a fur diaper with a longsword? That's just the miniature standing in for him.

And yet they gave us alternate cards to be closer to what the miniature is showing, I guess for variety, but there's only so far you can go with physical miniatures. If someone insists their Elf has blonde hair and blue eyes and a pale complexion, or that he's got raven hair and brown skin and bright green eyes, nobody can contradict it, because he's just got a red piece of plastic sitting there standing in or his imagination (painting takes too long!). Maybe my elf is on the taller side and covered in tattoos, while your Elf has one leg an is wearing an eyepatch that peaks out from under his helmet?

But I agree, why give us Mentor if he's going to be generic wizard man? It's not really Mentor, it's just a stand in, although Stephen Baker himself says he "saw" the miniature and was inspired to make a quest where Mentor makes an appearance (the only other time that happens in an official quest is the spirit of Mentor in the Dark Company).

But a spell effect tile... that could have some creedance. Many commented that they didn't like Wizards of Morcar so much for the quest we got, as to the "toys" it gave us to play with and use for whatever we wanted. I imagine many kids (they say "14+" age but this is just because of "sharp pointy objects") would do the same.

We did all sorts of things as kids. The miniature with the broken off sword, well it just so happens... Watch out, he's a Master of Kung Fu!

But I'm getting ahead of myself. This thread is more for dissecting the material. The modifications, the reviews, etc. will come, and boy will we have a good time with those!

No. you cannot control Mentor. The card says Wizard, not Mentor. So you can use the Mentor mini in place of the male/female wizard minis. Those are the stats on the card for ANY wizard, just each Hero mini comes with its own card with its own art to match up to it as mentioned in the pulse campaign.

We don't have stats for Mentor.

Also card sizes were posted by someone on Reddit or Twitter: 64mm x 91mm roughly.

Still haven't got an email, so cant measure with my micrometer or calipers...

So I was close! Poker size is 63.5mm X 88.9mm. Might be a custom size that's slightly larger, so you'll need bigger sleeves if you choose to use them.
Follow up is appreciated for that!

Mythic Box
Equipment:

What about the Dragon Spear and the Crown of Shadows Artifacts?

That list implies that the Mythic box includes a whole second copy of the Return of the Witch Lord cards... I may have to re-watch the Cosmic Tavern video.

The non-treasure potions are all considered "equipment," but it appears there's multiple copies of each of the potions, and some artifacts are shared (that is, each has their own copy of the same) between the KK & ROTWL (courage, fire of wrath, ball of flame, heal body and magical throwing dagger).

It is interesting to know because we might imagine KK & ROTWL would be sold separately at some point, meaning none of the "Dragon Box" stuff would be featured, but some of the others could be.

That's wrong, it's the Witch Lord card list.
The Mythic Box features instead 18 cards:

4 character cards (Bard, Druid, Warlock, Mentor)
3 Bard Spells
3 Druid Spells
3 Warlock Spells
3 new weapons (Dagger, Rapier, Wand)
2 new artifacts (Crown of Shadows and Dragon Spear)

Re: Hasbro 2021 Remake: Public Unboxing IS HERE!

Postby Kurgan » Friday November 5th, 2021 6:56pm

Thanks lestodante. It all gets a bit confusing. The Alchemist Shop potions are equipment cards for each set. Holy Water and Potion of Speed from the EU TREASURE deck are now GS equipment. Hand Axe, Bracers get added to the GS equipment list (along with Dagger and Longsword which were never there to begin with in the EU edition).

KK & ROTWL have each 10 new artifacts like always in the NA editions.

For the "Dragon Box"...
Each new Hero gets a character card plus 3 spells.
Two new weapons to correspond with those heroes.

For GS ("pulse exclusive"):
The gender swap bonus heroes each get a character card.

For the GS (pledges only):
Bonus Mentor gets a character card (alternate Wizard #3).

So the OTHER artifacts (besides Crown of Shadows and Dragon Spear above) are part of the Game System?

How is the Dagger a new weapon, or does that mean there's a copy of the dagger in the other box (but only one with the Game System)? When Cosmic Tavern was doing his I just figured he got his cards mixed up but I guess he does tear off the paper on his video, so I may have gotten confused, as he presents each deck. It's probably good he didn't know as much about HeroQuest, he was just presenting it as it came in the box, whereas I might have re-arranged stuff and confused everyone on my first try!

But it is important to know what's in the "Mythic" (Dragon on the back) box, for future retail purposes, if they keep everything else as is.

Edit: I guess the boxes say on the back/cover what is included, including the number of cards but not necessarily the distributions.

I guess that's the dagger for the druid and is the same of the one included in the GS.
Also, the Game System has now 1 more equipment card coming from the 2nd Eur version, the Bracers.
And 4 brand new artifacts:
Ring of Fortitude: +1BP
Fortune's Longsword: a broadsword that allows to reroll 1 attack die, once per quest
Phantom Blade: a dagger that, once per quest, cannot defend against
Rod of Telekinesis: allows the wizard to make a monster skip a turn.

Fortune's Longsword is a longsword though, right? (same as broadsword but with diagonal attack, and in this case the partial re-roll ability).

The "non-metal armor" restriction makes the Bracers a useful piece to buy not just for the Wizard. Warlock has same restrictions as the Wizard. Druid "can't wear metal armor" (does that mean no helmet either?). Since the Wizard's cloak says only the Wizard can wear it, that implies the Warlock can wear it but the Druid can't, assuming the preview is still accurate on those descriptions.

I wonder what is preventing players from just avoiding Chainmail, since it's the same thing only more expensive? I could understand if you find it in a search or it's given as a reward for completing some quest, though. Otherwise wouldn't heroes just buy that instead?

Cosmic Tavern is starting to respond to comments (he's got a ton of them now as expected!). He says the card size is 64mm x 90mm according to his own measurement and they fit in GameGenic 66x91mm size sleeves.
