True enough! Three copies of every piece of equipment would have made the Game System deck pretty large indeed. And they still left out some cards that could have been made like the two extra Alchemist Shop potions and reference Spell Scroll artifact in Prophecy of Telor and undocumented Spear equipment in Spirit Queen's Torment.

Coincidentally I see Reaper released a big set of "henchmen and hirelings" miniatures this month... help for homebrew there ;)

The description on that page says something about unique Knight skills, so they must be some kind of skill card King of like the spell cards for the wizard and elf.

Yeah I get that, I’m just questioning why 12 cards. The wizard only gets 9 spell cards, the barbarian doesn’t get any skill cards. Why would a knight suddenly get 12 skills to use? This is what critics refer to as “bloat”. Who cares about glaring inconsistencies when a company can make a quick bit of cash from excitable fans?

12 cards with two hero cards, so 10 other cards. The page says "3 unique powers and knight skills" so we could see 3 cards for the "unique powers" and then maybe a variety of skills for the other 7 cards, or that 7 could be items, equipment, new artifacts, etc. Also, it doesn't necessarily mean this new Knight hero will have access to the full list of abilities every quest, as it could be like the Elf and Wizard, where they pick a subset from a larger selection. If it works that way, the Wizard has access to 12 spell cards in comparison, so still more variety in abilities even if all 10 remaining cards in this set are skills.

I male knight character card, 3 "action" cards with male knight art
1 female knight character card, 3 "action" cards with female knight artwork. makes sense.
So what would the other 6 cards be?
A cheap move would be the player turn cards (one or two of those)
possible equipment cards

so far HQ 2021 remake was only a crowdsourced Haslab exclusive, hasn't even hinted at actual retail and they are doing another exclusive (expensive for just two figures)? Lame. Makes it super hard for collectors. losing interest fast.

The previous precedent was to just have male and female versions of the same character... two minis, two "hero cards" (or turn cards) and that's it... they don't have male and female versions of the same spells or gear.

So I'm assuming generic stuff, unless they expect you to use BOTH of them in a quest... to substitute for 2 heroes? I'm always assuming they are still having four heroes per quest, so ONE guardian knight to substitute for one of the classic four. We were never given real instructions on using the Mythic tier heroes, really. But it was kind of assumed that they just replace an existing one.

If the whole Gamestop set is limited edition and not just a sign of future retail, then yes I agree with you. Keeping it limited like this only helps scalpers and annoys collectors who feel obligated to buy everything. HeroQuest should be available to and for the masses, like any other board game you'd buy at a retail store.

Let me guess then:
2 character/turn (hero) cards
2 equipment cards (shared)
3 spells (shared)
5 skill cards (shared)

It seems logical they would release special content for special vendors. The entire exclusive release thing has long been a time honored way to scrape more money from the bottom of the barrel.

Will I break down and get the Knight? Probably. But I can afford it or ask for it as a Christmas present. I don't mind Hasbro maximizing their profit margin and milking their IP for all it is worth. Hell they should do everything they can to make a dollar.

I mean if we want to kvetch on about this sort of thing, lets talk MtG and all the collectors decks....
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

App's out. Don't back out of a quest intro; Mentor's voice files stack.

Sweet, just downloaded it. Now I just need to wait for my game to arrive!

Couple things I noticed:
- So far it's a little buggy. If you continue before letting Mentor finish speaking you get this weird overlay of Mentor trying to finish the previous text and reading the next set of text at the same time.
- I noticed that it seems to only contain the quests from the base game. Maybe expansions are unlocked later or maybe you need to give proof of purchase to access them, don't know yet.
- The custom quest building function that they talked about when they first announced the app seems to not exist, or if it does, I can't find it anywhere.
- In app settings allow for the following languages: English, Italian, German, Spanish, and French. Hopefully this means that they're planning to release the game in those languages as well.

I didn't see the expansions before, but looking at it now, they are there, but they say coming soon.
