Thanks for the painting advice. I agree, I think my base colour is too dark, it's making it difficult to get good coverage with my colours.

Whitebeard, your board looks really great. I really like the idea of dry brushing with white before adding the colours, this should lighten up my base coat and give me a better result. I think I'll try doing this, then add multiple thinned layers of the bright colours. I did learn through experimentation that I need to dry brush with my bright colour again after the wash, because the wash muted my colours.

I'll also try adding some brown to my wash to see how that looks, right now I only have a black wash.

I actually think your paint job is spot on and not surprisingly, you already have a great process in place. In your showcase of 5 rooms, the top left and bottom right look perfect. Then in the next photo, the tile with the Staircase on it shows many spots where bright brown paint is in some of the spaces between the tiles. If you have already hit it with a black wash, then you do not have enough black paint in there? It should really collect in those cracks and look perfect afterwards. Although I seem to remember having trouble on a few rooms and needing to re-paint the tile lines in black then touch it up again. So maybe that is it?

Overall it is really cool how quickly the board comes to life. Also note that, the camera tends to show issues which are simply not that noticeable in person. So you might actually be done with these rooms already.

Room tiles are painted, pretty happy with how they've turned out. They're a little dark, but I like that. The original board has pretty vibrant colours, I don't imagine that Zargon's cleaning staff would actually be that thorough though.

Image

Here's a little setup, I don't have any real miniatures, so these will have to do for now.

Image

I have plans to paint the corridors a lighter grey, just like the actual board, and I'm looking at my options for the walls of the rooms. I'm thinking that it would be good to do them the same colour as the corridors so they look bigger, but I also think that I want there to be a definite separation between the corridors and the rooms. So maybe a darker grey would be better.

Did some more work on furniture. One more piece to mark off the checklist. Here's my weapons rack. Started off with some square dowels and various other bits and pieces.

Image

The weapons were mostly carved out of popsicle sticks.

Everything was glued together, then given a quick paint.

That's so cool. You're going to have an awesome board set when finished.

Could you let me know where you got the female paper minis from please? They look pretty cool too.

Thanks.

These minis came with a game called Hero Kids, it can be found on DriveThruRPG. The minis come black and white, I took them into Photoshop and added the colours before printing them.

You know,
You could possibly share them here :-)

No.
Don't do that to DriveThruRPG. They are a cool site.

Thanks, I'll look them up.

I'm making a gift set for someone with a young girl and am looking for female minis that aren't looking like they're drawn by a horny 13 year old boy, so these might be perfect.

Got a bit more done on the furniture this week. Started on the bookcases and cupboard.

Image

Browsing around Google Image Search for inspiration, I found a craft that had a broken shelf, loving that idea, I definitely stole it.

After loading up one shelf with tiny books, I was surprised by how much weight the books added, I needed to add something to the cupboard because its pretty much just hollow.

Image

From now on, my spare nuts and bolts will be stored in my HeroQuest cupboard.

Getting bored of making tiny individual books, I decided to start on the treasure chests too.

Image

I finished off the chests, then finished off the book cases, here they are together.

Image

And here are some closer shots for your viewing pleasure.
