Classic quests interpreted by Heroic Maps

Postby Questgnome » Sunday August 5th, 2018 11:35pm

Have any of you tried playing through the classic quests on Heroic Maps' recently-released reinterpreted layouts? They look great, and the designer made an effort to uniquely theme each to the storyline of the quest.

Having said that, I do wish they came with Zargon/Morcar maps indicating exact furniture and monster placement. (Yes, I am that lazy.)

Maybe Heroic Maps will be the modular tiles that I will print on vinyl one day.

Those maps are beauties.

I checked two in Detail and they depict accurately the quest layout.
I wonder how you play those without giving everything away before time.

Anderas - if you're worried about the players seeing the layout, the easiest thing to do is to get
some black cloth and cut it into small blocks. You could use that to cover the entire board,
and it would fold to open up rooms as needed, or you could just remove pieces as needed.
(I say fold...that way you could just cut several blocks and use them for all boards, instead
of having to cut pieces special for each layout)

"The Trial of the Maze" at least looks as if you can use it the traditional Heroquest way.

I seem to remember their maps have a gridded option. If I'm wrong, some of those rooms apparently require some guesswork for figure placement.

I see Anderas' point about the Trial of the Maze. I favor it because has the most replay value.

I bought something from them some time ago. You get both, with and without grid.

They've always billed their products as being compatible with, if not created specifically with HeroQuest in mind.

It is nice to see them remake some of the actual quests. I'm sure they know more about what they are doing than I
do, I just hope they are careful with their marketing. I doubt MB would be going after them for using the HQ name,
but the company that owns the name might. I know I wouldn't even attempt it with D&D or any of the companies
that produce material for that game.

They are very cool and I certainly wouldn't mind using some of them here and there to break up the monotony of using the same map for every Quest, but they are super specific and probably really hard to cover to keep from showing off map secrets. I think I might buy them just to have the option of possibly using them some day.

I hope they make these for more quests in the future.

We may have teamed up with Heroic maps so the whole set will be released to compliment our next Litchmyre Dungeon kickstarter shortly ;) Should see the other maps soon when that goes live!
The art looks really neat and in keeping with the classic HQ style
