That is the part in the English langauge that annoys me. In Word, it always shows incorrect.

Reezarts' training means it was the training Reezart was doing. Reezart's training is Reezart is training.

First one is ownership of the next noun, the second one is an abbreviation. But grammar correction can get it wrong!

But I'll look at the other stuff. Was in the zone, so not surprised if I missed some things.

Oh, I thought belonging to was before the s, Reezart's, same as Reezart is, and it only goes after if the name ends in s, so if his name was Reezarts it would be Reezarts' training.

Correct.
If the name is Reezart:
Reezarts - Plural of Reezart
Reezart's - Possessive
Reezart's contraction for Reezart is

If the name is Reezarts:
Reezarts' - Possessive

Wrong, I'm sorry to say. Reezart's training is the correct form for both the training of (by) Reezart and what Reezart is doing now (present progressive contraction).
Reezarts' training is onlycorrect if the guy's name is Reezarts.

I know the feeling. I know English better than German, my first language.
I studied Literature of both, didn't learn a freakin' thing during university, that's how fraggled up education is.
But I digress...

My question to you KK, being as learn-ed as you are: have you been reading the story? Do you like it?

I may gather it all up and submit it to a fantasy fiction story comp, if it fits within the competition's scope. (See, I'm learning :D)

Re: Story room

Postby Gold Bearer » April 1st, 2017, 7:13 pm

I tried reading a couple of fantasy books years ago, just what the library happened to have. They were bloody awful. I might have just happened to pick a couple of boring, badly written ones but yours is a LOT better. I would definitely have finished and enjoyed reading yours.

LotR is obviously the standard but I didn't even think that was great, I enjoyed it but the only thing that really sucked me in was the ring itself and the way it felt like a character in it's own right. A really simple idea but it brought the whole story to life for me. "Strange, that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing." :) That line wasn't in the book, I would remember because it would be my favourite. There's actually quite a bit missing from the films, Saruman didn't die either in the book. Faramir was my favourite character, and easily the most heroic. He was the only one that wasn't at all tempted by the ring despite Frodo actually offering it to him, the exactly opposite of Boromir.

Looks like somebody stole the main idea for mine looking at the trailer for Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rbPTQIdjmY That's exactly what I had in mind, fantasy type world without the stereotypes and with modern characters, feel, attitude and dialogue. I've still got something else that will make it different though.

To be perfectly honest with you, no, I haven't. And probably won't. The reasons are manifold, but it's mostly that I don't like reading a lot of raw text from the internet.
I spend way too little time reading a real book as is.
And while I like reading and could name it as a hobby, I'm not particularly fond of reading new things, especially when it's fiction.
That's got nothing to do with you or anyone really... It's really hard to explain.

Mine isn't good enough to submit. I am just writing it for the fun of it. My story is fantasy fiction but my favorite genre to read is historical fiction. Lot of research involved in writing historical fiction.

Re: Story room

Postby MadMickyG » April 3rd, 2017, 8:38 pm

My epic hero story is completed, but I am writing an introduction to the females in the story. Their origin stories.

As most are suffering a severe illness to warrant what happens to them, I have been researching different general problems, then going to a specific illness that causes the symptoms each is suffering from.

The link to my story site is on my signature.

And you may not think your story is worth submitting. But some of the sites give feedback. If you have skill, they'll tell you, plus how to develop or improve your writing.

I wish I'd done this years ago, as I have stories I wrote that are over 20 years old. And thats older than any of my kids!

Worst you can get is nothing back from, and might be out a few dollars.
If it's something you love doing, then go for it. You just never know! |_P
