I don't think it's that bad to have a group playing these solo quests because they're a bit on the "unfair" difficulty side for a basic solo hero anyway (or an equipped but unlucky one!) as written in 1992. But then I haven't played these quests with four heroes, that might be a bit on the easier side (what's wrong with having a quest that is easy? Easy doesn't automatically equal boring, and it eases the players into the campaign in my view).
Anyway I've played the Frozen Horror solo quests per the '92 format and had a pretty decent challenge with 3 heroes. I've played the first Mage of the Mirror quest with 2 heroes and had a decent challenge as well.
For the EQP you want to make sure that the Elf has healing, so he or she must choose the Water or Earth spells (rather than the Fire, Air or Elf spells).. either that or have the equivalent in potions (say, 3 or 4 healing potions with them already). The Elf still may have a tough time with bad rolls and drawing wandering monsters.
For BQP solo quests once you correct the Yeti hug problem, it's still a hard fight but survivable though a little more healing goes a long way. The Barbarian is normally very powerful yes, but he usually can count on the other heroes to back him up when he's blocking a door and can look to be healed by a magic user, which when he's alone he doesn't get.
Thanks for sharing these, I'm sure they will be appreciated for those looking for a pre-set alternate way to play these challenging adventures! Not everyone even likes the solo quest concept (in the old game we thought nothing of having one player control multiple heroes... though your turns tend to take longer).
