The Kathryn L. Connors Interview Mar/2023

Postby lucapaschi » March 23rd, 2023, 5:30 pm

Hey all, since no one seem to have posted it yet, here's for posterity:
https://elvyler.com/2023/03/elf-quest-pack-designer-interview/

While studying the Elf quest pack's drafts, we did finally find out who the missing designer of the pack was!
Some extra digging meant we could land an awesome interview on the design process of the Elf pack.
Many thanks to the wonderful Kathy for her interview! :)

This is a fantastic extra treat revelation because of the hard work and perseverance that you and the "Team" have put in. Thank you so much for your collective efforts in tracking down Ms. Connors, securing this interview, and arranging it's presentation to the world. Kudos, indeed.

As I sayd before, if Hasbro is not interested in crediting the original authors, then fans will surely do! ;)

Salute from the fans! Elf Pack (like Barbarian pack) had some rough edges, but we can see they had a lot working against them. It's a part of HeroQuest history that should not be forgotten!

Kudos on the interview!

The oddest part is that after she submitted the draft she was cut out of the loop for feedback and revisions.

Interesting stuff, one thing that popped out at me was her reference to "the Games Workshop version"...is this a reference to FE or SE or something else, it is certainly choice of phrase...

As I said previously, I had EXTENSIVE play time with HQ, starting with the Games Workshop version!

:whiteshield: = shield, cancels out one "hit"

Editions: 1989 Original First Edition [FE] and Second Edition [SE], 1990 Remake [US], 2021 Remake [21]

HeroQuest Gold new edition based on Original 1989 HeroQuest, holes patched, dents hammered out, buffed to a shiny finish with ~50 common issues fixed for a smoother experience.

I think based on the following part of the interview "(we had two American sets as well as the Games Workshop version, Kellar’s Keep and Witch Lord expansions)", she might mean the UK version!

This was my take as well.

I think she needed to specify, as you may recall the copyright infringement on the name "Elf Quest Pack" and they had to change it to "Quest Pack for the Elf".
In similar fashion there's "HeroQuest" in regards to the Glorantha world. So it could just be away of being specific.
