I just finished the quests from the main game. Does items and gold transfer or is it best to just start over? Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere.

Heroes continue on with what they have acquired. That's why they become overpowered and that's why there are so many threads on power balancing.

Heroes keep what they have when they go into the expansions. They'll need to spend heavily on weapons, potions (and men-at-arms before Wizards of Morcar). I shudder at the thought of letting a brand new set of Heroes loose against the likes of the Ogre Horde, or The Stormmaster and co, or god forbid the Frozen Horror.

Heroes can get very powerful, but when they eventually get their comeuppance it's all the sweeter for us Morcars'.

Oh and don't let Heroes buy from the armoury or alchemists shop between quests during the expansions, they are supposed to be deep underground battling through one long interlinked dungeon.

The exception would be WOM and the solo quests at the start of FH and MITM, the Heroes are travelling between locations then.

What is best is up to you, but consider this from p.23 of the NA Instruction Booklet:

Wizard: Since there are so few things that you can buy from the Armory, it would be wise for you to save your money. Other powerful magic items will be offered for sale in future Quest Packs). You may wish to spend your money on those items.
