Thanks for the reply. And keep those spiffy Quest reports coming. It brings back the old memories with pictures to boot.

Yikes, sounds like my initial thoughts were correct. We JUST played this quest a few days ago and I had the boulder rolling over the Barbarian and then the Elf before stopping... but then I wondered: how will they ever be able to join the rest of the party if the boulder separates them? I was completely forgetting that the boulder would continue moving to the right on its next turn. So I stupidly had it stop just behind the Barbarian instead. :/ Now I see that it was SUPPOSED to roll over multiple Heroes until it got to its stopping point. Curses! However, if I remember correctly it is employed again in a later quest? I'll be sure to GM it correctly next time.

The boulder gets placed during the Hero's movement, on his turn. Zargon's next turn is his next turn, just like normal. Just like every other trap in the entire game, it is triggered by a Hero on that Hero's turn. It does not move until after that last Hero finishes his turn. There is nothing at all going on like, "Instead, first there is an assumed Zargon turn for placing the boulder tile on "A", where it is redundant and misleading to apply a "next" modifier."

All heroes but one pass "A."
Last hero passes ''A."
Zargon places Boulder Tile on "A," which would be one square behind the Last hero.
The Last hero finishes his turn.
Zargon moves the boulder.

Before, I merely stated it could be played this way, but after rechecking the wording for a Gargoyle traps in the Quest Book, I gotta agree it's best to place it on the turn of the last Hero who passes it.

Sure, it's simpler to accept "next turn" as an initializer for "subsequent turns". Uncle.

I like this description, particularly the second-to-last line which reveals the variability of the trap. The trap is much more forgiving if the first Hero in the turn order is the last to cross the trigger and set off the trap. Not only may he continue his move, but the other Heroes may move again farther beyond the boulder starting-point before the boulder moves. This doesn't seem too brutal. However, if the last Hero in the turn order triggers the trap, things are gonna be nasty.

Earlier in this thread, I more or less mentioned the ideal opening move: The first Hero should move just one square and search for traps on his first turn. Though I said it was unlikely, I should amend this and say smart play dictates that this should be done. So I guess the boulder is fair for cautious Heroes; however, incautious Heroes are gonna get pasted!

The boulder trap can't be found by searching for traps. I think that's in the quest notes.
